Just out of curiosity, who was it that’s decided that everyone was so totally peaceful prior to the date of this “fire in the sky” event?

Sounds like a cheap horror movie. :)

The Earth passes through the tail of a comet, which dooms all human and animal life except for those who happened to be completely enclosed inside metal containers (for example, the three main protagonists spend the night in a metal shed, a steel-lined projection room, and an 18-wheeler's trailer). Unprotected people and animals quickly dehydrate and turn into piles of red calcium dust. Those only partially exposed first gradually degenerate into cannibalistic zombies for hours or days before succumbing.

One small question: Where did this huge comet go? Something like that would still be (easily) visible, i.e. comets do not disappear.

This basic story has been pieced together twice previously, Donelly and Velikovsky, and Velikovsky at least provided an answer as to where the comet went or ended up.

Graham Phillips argues persuasively that Earth encountered a massive comet 3,500 years ago

Dear Author,

I have some rather rare swamp land in Florida that is destined to become very valuable for a mere 100 per acre.

“He also explores how the appearance of a celestial body that outshone the moon would have been interpreted as a significant religious event—the premier appearance of a powerful new god to supplant the deities previously worshipped around the world.”

I guess we’ll have to take his word for the brightness and visibility but it is hard to do so when the current info shows that over three sightings and 190 years the maximum brightness has never been calculated to be any brighter than 1/150th that of the full moon.

He contends that debris in the comet’s tail contaminated the atmosphere with a chemical known to cause aggressive behavior, and that after little more than a decade, worldwide hostility abruptly abated.

And it's all been sweetness and light ever since, eh? Bwahaha!

Thought I was listening to Graham Hancock at first. Graham Phillips is in a good pocket of investigation of off-beat, nearly unprovable hypotheses. He makes the short list.

Moses' Comet

"There may be veiled references to comets in the biblical narrative, leading to the possibility that the Santorini eruption itself may have been triggered by a bolide (comet or asteroid) impact. David Levy, co-discoverer of the comet that bears his and Jean Shoemaker's names, has argued that the description of the “angel of the Lord in the sky over Jerusalem with a drawn sword” (1 Chronicles 21) could be a reference to a comet."
"The Angel of the Lord was, of course, also present at the Exodus, as it was “traveling in front of Israel's army.” Further, there are indications that as the Israelites left Egypt, the night was as bright as midday.

Book Description Presents compelling evidence that civilizations worldwide became warlike and monotheistic after Earth passed through the tail of a comet in 1500 B.C.

Men have always killed other men for property and power. No comet tail was needed for this chief characteristic of our race.

The object appeared twenty times larger than the full moon and was by far the largest comet sighting ever recorded by ancient historians.

So it appeared in the sky to be about the diameter of a 5" grapefruit held at arm's length.

Uh huh. But a bunch of comet grit in peoples' loinclothes could have provoked a lot of testiness.
