My 12 yo granddaughter, named Rachel, was taken by her mom, (my daughter) to the ER last night with a bad stomach ache and a fever. Her dad, my son-in-law, stayed home with the other two kids.
At 11pm they called me to come and stay with the younger children because Rachel was going into surgery. By the time they operated, it had been seeping pus (had burst) and now she is very very sick. She's on two IV antibiotics, glassy-eyed, feverish, and sort of out of it.
I'm so upset! She waited 2-1/2 hours in a very slow ER--in agonizing pain, and now this! They don't know when she'll be released--certainly not till she's without a fever for 24 hours; at least her kidneys are functioning okay right now.
Please pray for her recovery--I ask not for myself, but for her sake, and my daughter and her husband who are worried sick, and so is her little sister.
Thank you so much. I've known people who've had this happen, and none of them look as sick as poor Rachel does.

I am sorry to hear your granddaughter ruptured her appendix. Just so you will know, the mortality rate is less thatn 1 in 10,000 in this day and age of antibiotics and modern surgery. Her youth is on her side, and it its the greatest likelihood she will be back to normal in a few weeks. These things are nearly as hard on family members as the patients. In the old days, prior to antibiotics, this was a very deadly disease.
Be of good cheer. She will be fine. Many in pray over her and her family.
I went to see Rachel at 7 this morning, my daughter had spent the night with her. She was unable to sleep until about 2 am when her fever broke, she walked to the br, and then fell asleep until about 7:45 am. Fever is back, but the nurse said to expect that for a day or two, the on and off fever.
At noon we should know the right antibiotic, she’s been getting cipro and flagyl (I think, not perfectly sure) because she is allergic to penicillin. If there is a better antibiotic more specific to the bug(s) in her gut, they’ll give it.
She was sound asleep while I was there, then woke as I was leaving. Her throat is still sore from the anesthetic during surgery, but her skin and face looked MUCH better. Other good news, her tummy is gurgling (don’t want to embarrass her when she reads this) and that means her systems are re-booting, so to speak.
This whole ordeal has left Rachel utterly exhausted. I am going to print this out and take it to her this evening, thank you SO MUCH everyone for your prayers—the school is praying for her this morning, too. She mentioned to my daughter that since she would miss mass on Thursday and Friday, could someone please bring her communion, and of course our deacon or priest will.
She will for sure be in the hospital until no trace of fever for 24 hours. Interestingly, she is the only patient on her unit at the moment, so all the nurses are hovering, which I appreciate no end.
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Our father, please look over our sister Rachel and see that she is healed and lives a long meaningful life in your grace. Alleviate Rachel’s and her Grandmother’s burden and worry, as they look to you for comfort and peace. Amen!

Did that happen at St.Marys hospital? Just curious. They seem to be notorious for that sort of thing.
Prayers for your grand daughter it's not going to be fun for the next couple days. When I was at that age one of my cousins had the same thing happened to him. He spent at least a week in the hospital.
My thoughts are with Rachel and your family.
My nephew’s appendix burst a few weeks ago. He has a high pain threshold, he thought he had a stomachache and it would go away. By the time he got a fever, gangrene had set in. He was a very sick young man. Prayers really saved his life, and guided the doctors hands and treatment. It will take awhile for him to recover, but he is doing well.
I will pray for Rachel and your family, prayer does make a difference.

I’m glad to hear such a positive update. You all will be in my continued prayers until she is back to normal! =)
Rachel also does not complain over small things—LOL! She got a sprained ankle a week ago, with a torn tendon, and she used crutches for a week, is just using the cast now. She’s sort of a tomboy, at this age, really enjoys being outdoors with her cousins at the farm.
Been there, done that.

Somehow I had a calm feeling about Rachel when I prayed. Our daughter, who is the mother of our 13 year old granddaughter, prayed too. We’ll keep Rachel in our thoughts until she is well.

My hubby had his appendix rupture when he was in his late 40s. He was in the emergency room for 5 hours, plus all the time it took to get him to the hospital. They had to remove his intestines and spray them off to remove the poison. He was a sick puppy for about 12 days, but he recovered, with a whole new attitude about life, I might add.
Certainly, we will pray for your granddaughter.
