The media piled on when President Bush used his veto pen on this children's health insurance bill. They tried to drop the absolute moral authority bomb on it big time and paint him as not caring about children. Now it looks like a little backfire is on the horizon.
On September 29th, 12 year old Graeme Frost of Maryland got to do the Democrats radio address, in which he told his story of how he and his sister were seriously injured in a car accident, and if it hadnt been for SCHIP, they wouldnt be here today. The Baltimore Sun did a story on the family, in which it stated the family couldnt get health insurance through their work.
"Bonnie Frost works for a medical publishing firm; her husband, Halsey, is a woodworker. They are raising their four children on combined income of about $45,000 a year. Neither gets health insurance through work."
There were many others in the media that swallowed the story whole with its hook. All of them were missing greatly in one major thing, facts.
Freerepublic's icwhatudo, managed to find plenty of missing facts using google:
"First, Mr. Halsey Frost, Graemes father, owns his own woodworking design studio, Frostworks, so his claim that he cant get health insurance through work is shockingly deceptive. He chooses not to get health care for his family. Second, Graeme and his sister Gemma attend the very exclusive Park School, which has a tuition of $20,000 a year, per child. Third, they live in a 3,000+ square foot home in a neighborhood with smaller homes that are selling for at least $400,000. "
Dan Collins concludes:
"Im glad little Graham and his family were able to get help, and I hope he reaches full rehabilitation. But perhaps the Democrats ought to take more care in the spokespeople they choose, if they wish to tug at our heartstrings."
Then again, as Mark Steyn says:
"But who needs facts when you've got the human-interest angle sewn up?"

I have an acquaintence who is liberal to the core and vocal about his disgust with Rush Limbaugh et al. He has his own lawn care business and plays guitar on the side. More than once I heard him dismiss the notion of reporting his earnings as a musucian.
It's like, hey, if you're so in favor of all that taxation, why don't you want to participate in the game? Nothing worse than a liberal Democrat who refuses to put money where their mouth is. Maybe it's because their foot is taking up all that space.

I worked many 60-70 hour weeks. I went to college nights to better myself for the benefit of my family.
Why the heck can’t that dad work harder, smarter and longer for the basic needs of his family? Is he working two jobs? Is he taking side jobs?
Perhaps that’s the difference between a liberal and a conservative. A lib goes sniveling (or has his child and wife go sniveling) to the goverment for help.

WOW!! You need to send that comment to ICWHATUDO!! Double Dipping Democrat...works for me!
I live 2 miles from The Park School.
Grandparents paying tuition is very common for the Baltimore independent school student. That scenario is much more plausible than a scholarship.
I doubt seriously that Park would give a white child from a typical (liberal) Baltimore upbringing anything near a full scholarship. Maybe some money, but not all. Trust me, Graeme Frost would not add any “diversity” to Park. He and his parents are quite typical city dwellers who send their kids to private school.
My husband and I are self-employed as well, and would not think of going ONE DAY without health insurance on our family. It is expensive, but with a decent deductible, it’s not $1200/month.
Meanwhile, there are signs on every business around here (including the convenience store down the road) advertising for full time help with benefits.
Maybe if Mr. Frost chooses not to buy insurance, Mrs. Frost can manage a job that does.

One may conclude that Halsey Frost comes from an affluent family of New York liberals. I don't think conservative crediblility is going to be damaged by this one.
I’m not holding my breath for the IRS to get involved. These people are small potatoes, and if they are tax-evaders they probably have their tracks well-covered or they wouldn’t have participated in this political stunt. Remember, the IRS folks are all government workers whose professional interests are served by a huge government tax-and-spend machine. They’re not likely to be particularly eager to piss off the Democrat movers and shakers, especially with a strong likelihood of a Democrat White House right around the corner. They were understandably happy to comply with requests to attack the Clintons’ political enemies during Bubba’s tenure in the White House.
What was the date of the accident?
It would have been RE-BUTTED on EVERY NEWS UPDATE!!
The Republicans need to start trotting out, “Mr. and Mrs. Joe Taxpayer,” with their stories of how hard it is to make ends meet when they are spending 5 months of the year working to pay for unnecessary government programs.
Both are LIARS!!
IRS.....IRS.....IRS....are you listening????
In Maryland, the minimum auto insurance policy has very modest medical coverage. My own policy, which provides significantly more than the minimum coverage, doesn’t have enough insurance to cover even a day or two in intensive care.

It is “El Toro Cocka”.
hmmmmmm
I hear what you are saying, but the media should have checked out this story already. They didn't...
Bingo!
Not sure to what you’re referring.

if in FACT they show an income of $45K and the guy owns his own business it could be a case where he actually makes $150K but shows less to avoid taxes....
BINGO
