NEWPORT NEWS - The decision to seek no time behind bars for a former Newport News police officer who pleaded guilty to molesting two teenagers in the 1980s and 1990s came down to getting a sure conviction rather than taking chances with a jury trial on a long-ago case, a prosecutor said.
Randolph D. Smith, 60, pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of indecent liberties with children, getting a 45-year sentence - all of it suspended. All the incidents occurred while Smith was a sworn police officer.

I always wonder if this happens because Mr. Officer has some dirt on some “dignitary”. Not that I’m cynical, or anything like that.
Not sure, that wiki page didn’t come up. I’m referring to the case where two pervs read instructions on NAMBLAs site on how to rape a little boy.
They followed the example to the T, raped the little boy repeatedly after stuffing a rag in his mouth and taping it in. If I recall the rag had gas on it and the little boy (12 I think) suffocated as he was being repeatedly raped.

Because you don’t have to be rich to get “special treatment”.’
Being rich helps but being connected is even better. Typically the rich are connected though.
If this guy wasn’t a cop I guarantee he woulda had jail time.
Restorative justice is a philosophy that rehabilitation and understanding are much more important that punishment and incarceration. I always figure it is in play when I see popular lines used like:
“felt responsible for some inappropriate conduct,” and “wanted to resolve it for everybody” by pleading guilty.
and:
As for sending Smith to prison, he said, “I don’t think it would have done anybody any good.”
All B.S. If the victims were little kids I could see the concern for them. But we are talking 26 and 35 years old here.
Outrageous. This type of stories are becoming too common.
So kids can’t play outside anymore anywhere, and we wonder why they’re obese.
This is too horrible for words.....
One set of rules for government and another set for us.
Question: Will he still have to register as a sex offender?
The liberal paradise. Where their sex crimes can thrive and the criminal stands a good chance of surviving to do it again and again. Since liberals worship perversion, they naturally want to do away with any restraints, either cultural or legal.
BTW, my parents found out that this guy had a history of doing this. And because I didn’t tell anyone when he molested me (I was too afraid to tell anyone) he then tried to rape a 12 year old acquaintance of mine. No charges were pressed in either her case or mine cause our parents didn’t want to go to court. How I wished that my parent HAD pressed charges. God only knows how many other young girls this guy molested after us.
I’ve read where pedophiles and NAMBLA say it doesn’t affect children in a negative way. OH YES IT DOES!!!!!!!!!!!
"Illegal" perverts can really get a break.
I've read where mexican child molesters can plead guilty, & then are given the *option* of self-deporting, rather than serving ANY U.S. jail time.
They will however have to serve their time, *IF* they are caught sneaking back in.
The justice system needs to be modified (IMO). Setting this individual free is an affront to almost every basic legal principle. The judge should be judged for this IMO.
Really weird outcome. One of the victims is 26 now and the incident was from 1994, so he was 13 at the oldest. I didn’t think you could get out of molesting someone that young without even getting a single night in jail. You’d get a stiffer sentence for shoplifing.
if the “honest LEO’s” had a problem with this I am sure they could find a way of making this guy figure it out
Congratulations on finding Jesus - he’s been waiting for you. You have an awesome life ahead of you and it lasts forever.
How about most?
These guys almost always do it again. If the judge expects him to be of good behavior, the judge can probably forget it.
That is their age today, not when the were molested.
