I was thinking of the same story when I saw the article.

Commander Chris Peterschmidt, an ROTC college buddy of mine, was that XO. As the USS Cole departed from Yemen, the Captain ordered patriotic music to be played. A crew member inserted “American Bad Ass.” The Captain gave Chris “the look” and he went to fix the situation. But halfway there he decided to let it go afterall. Not sure what the Captain thought as the song played out but Chris figured after all the crew had been through, they deserved some leeway.

BTW, Chris was a physics major and super smart. He was the one that convinced the Captain to punch a hole on the other side of the Cole to keep it upright. I’m sure they were all glad he was the XO during that time.

Kid Rock made it known that he is a big proponent of firearms

Romeo, where he is from, is about 15 miles north of me. Still quite rural but developing very fast. And at the time Rock was growing up, it was very rural and the type of small town where teenagers would take their beer out to the woods and fields and party.......

Sean Penn, born and raised in Hollywood, Kid Rock, born and raised in a farming and autoworking town.......striking differences in backgrounds that I'm sure Rock is very aware of.

Someday I hope the Rock cold-cocks Penn.........but thats just me.

Kid Rock surprised me with his music. He has played with Hank Williams Jr. and played with Carl Perkins when he was alive. Kid Rock does know music and he is not all rap and can play R&R as well as old country. A lot of his stuff just bites but he has hung out and learned from some of the best.

Kid Rock spent Christmas with the troops and met then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, whom he defends as well. "I was at the White House drinking a Beam and Coke, shooting the [bleep] with Rumsfeld, when [President] Bush came by and gave me five like we were on Seven Mile and Van Dyke in Detroit," he told Penthouse. It didn't stop there either.

My favorite memory of Kid Rock is during the Harley Davidson 100th anniversary celebration at Veterans Park in Milwaukee in 2003. Elton John (ugh!) was playing “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”, with Kid Rock singing the lead vocals. About a third of the way through the song KR jumped on top of the piano and stomped his way towards the keyboard, bent down and screaming the song lyrics in the direction of Sir Pillowbiter.

Elton John was as far away from the piano as he could get and still be able actually play it, trying to put as much distance between himself and Kid Rock as possible. You could see the fear in his face as the cameras closed in on the scene. Kid Rock’s muddy work boots left big dirt prints all over the top of the shiny black Yamaha piano Elton John was playing. It was a Kodak Moment™.
