Which test is that?

The ASVAB. Currently, Army applicants only need to cut a 31 vaiverable to 26. Navy is 35, Marines is 32, and Air Force is 36.

Let's put it this way--26 is considered "Cat IV", or what we used to refer to as "rocks with lips".

And considering I used to be a Nuclear Power program recruiter (and operator) I wouldn't even SERIOUSLY look at you unless you scored 80+ with qualifying line scores. Yes, one could "theoretically" qualify with something as low as 63-65, most of my successful candidates scored in the mid-80's or above. (I was a 99 QT, 73 NFQT.)

Practice tests are on the web. Try one and see how you do.

Click on my handle and look at my Freeper page. To fly those babies you need 110+. I am so proud of my 17-19 year old 96U’s (soon to be 35U). They are the best and brightest this nation has to offer. I have two (2) black soldiers and they are hard working, speak the “kings english”, go to night school, have at least one (1) job, and don’t wear “colors” or “hang around”.

I know a Russian immigrant (enlisted man) who aced it.

I was curious, dug out my DA 1811 ‘physical data and aptitude test score upon release from active duty’.
Apparently they weren’t using asvab back then, that block is filled with dashes and the other side, titled ACB-73 scores is filled in:
CO=123,FA=133,EL=123,OF=128,GM=125,MM=112,CL=147,ST=126,GT=147,SC=130.

How would that translate today? I signed up for armor BTW, wound up as a Scout, then a FAC track driver for the Airdales and finally a FA fire direction computer using slipsticks and firing tables!

I 99'd my ASVAB. Unfortunately, it doesn't test for depression... which is why I washed out of Nuke School (and later, the Navy). Untreated Major Depressive Disease turned me from a 4.0 sailor to whimpering meat.

I'd like to serve our country again in some capacity, but with an OTH there's just no way, 99 ASVAB or not. (My depression is treatable and fully under control these days.)

The need for cannon fodder in the Navy is pretty much over. Yardapes do all the heavy work these days, and contractors do the fun stuff. That leaves bright young enlistees with nothing to look forward to except six years of swabbing decks and cleaning heads.

Although I "harbor" no hard feeling all these year later, I still think that the Navy needs to rethink the way it does a lot of things.
