On Friday's "Good Morning America," reporter Claire Shipman fretted over the fact that local governments are aggressively fighting illegal immigration. An ABC graphic worried, "Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants: Have Communities Gone Too Far?" Discussing the efforts by a Texas town to stop the influx of illegals, Shipman claimed, "...Neighbors suddenly find they can't help themselves. The immigration debate exploding without the niceties." She also lamented the tone of the debate, saying that since the defeat of the Senate immigration bill, "...What had once been a lofty political debate has now become a gritty, explosive reality."
At no point did it occur to ABC to wonder if illegals had "gone too far" in breaking American laws. Rather, Shipman highlighted sympathetic stories of terrified immigrants. She asserted that in the small town of Irving, Texas, "Latino parents have grown so nervous, they're keeping their kids out of schools." The GMA reporter also talked to an anonymous illegal immigrant in Virginia who recounted the ordeal of having a child who "comes home and asked me, 'Why do they hate us?'"

Good. Maybe they'll eventually become nervous enough to go back home. But I suspect that'd happen only if the anchor baby laws are rescinded, illegal-hiring employers are hit where it hurts, the welfare goodies are cut off, a border barrier is built, and deportations commence in earnest. Long way to go, obviously.

"...a lofty political debate" is an interesting way to characterize the federal government telling us to go to hell.
These people are here illegally, there is no reason the rest of the county and country has to foot the bill for these people.
Let Shipman pay for them, if she wants them in here so bad. Love to see someone she loves killed by a drunk illegal in a car accident. Maybe she’d change her attitude pretty quick.
Do we still have 12-20 illegal aliens squatting in America?
To the lefties, their every opposition is a “lofty political debate”. It only gets nasty when us lesser folk insist on enforcement of our laws, personal responsibility and adherence to our Constitution. How unbearably “common” that is?
“comes home and asked me, ‘Why do they hate us?’”
Because you are killing the country my ancestors built and draining my country’s resources you illegal POS.
Not to mention you flaunt it in my face.
What a tear jerker story! The daughter is an American citizen only because we haven't modernized our antiquated anchor baby laws.
Plus they've crashed the line of people waiting to get in here legally.
Still, if he's earning an honest living and not living off our taxpayers, I'd be inclined to let him stay if he'd learn English, get legalized and not view his American neighbors as cows to be milked or dogs to be kicked out of the way. But I still have to wonder what the attraction is in staying here if he just wants to turn us into another Mexico.
They haven’t gone far enough.
Far too few cities have gone far enough!!!
When our President and most of our Senators and Congressmen and women refuse to uphold our Laws and National Soverignty, they our individual communities have to do what they can. It's a sad fact of life; I wish them well...
The weenies hoping to run for reelection better wake up lest they find themselves spending "more time with their families" instead of taking bribes from the U.S. Chambers of Commerce, for more illegals to "do the jobs ordinary Americans won't do."
“Local Governments Going ‘Too Far’ Against Illegals?”
No, dammit. It’s the US government that has gone too far against its’ own citizens.
Just to contemplate the magnitude of the problem, they would need to deport 10,000 illegals per day for five and a half years to remove what’s estimated to be here.
I have often been described as a pretty hard-hearted individual. But even I think you might have crossed the line by wishing some innocent person dead. The deaths caused illegals are tragic, but your wish is just COLD.
so abc is ok with eminent domain abuse by local cities but not ok with stopping illegals.
There is a pattern here. ABC is ok with theft aka eliminating property rights.
