They’re doing it in Michigan, too. I took my 6 yr old daughter to the ER for strep throat and they asked her if she was afraid to go home, or if anyone was hurting her. She looked at me like, “Huh?”

When I was a little kid, my parents wouldn’t let the doctor take me into a room without them being there also. I used to think they were nuts. It used to really bug me when they made a stink over it. Now I understand. My parents were actually quite clever and not the annoying goofs I used to think they were.

Then as you get ready to leave with your child, you ask,Did anyone touch you and make you feel scared? Did anyone give you mean looks? Are you scared of anybody in the hospital?
Then to top it off, tell the doctor (regardless of the child’s answers), I think we will find another hospital in the future.

I remember years ago, the first time a doctor asked me if I was being physically abused by my husband. I laughed, but I was shocked, because it appeared to be a standard question asked during a routine visit.
A year or so later, I took my husband to the emergency room for an asthma attack, and the doctor asked him, while I was there, if I was physically abusing him. It's bizarre.
