Not at all, and I don’t appreciate words being put into my mouth.

I want a President who believes in God. Christian (Catholic OR Protestant,) Jewish, or even Deist. I want a President to acknowledge the basis God has in our Republic and our Constitution. I want a President that realizes Islam is evil, and that the Allah of Islam is not the God of Judaism and Christianity.

I don’t want/need a President that quotes scripture at campaign stops. I don’t want/need a President that feels the need to kiss the behinds of people who expect their candidate to have 100% perfect views.

Dobson was OUT OF LINE when he accused Fred of not being a Christian. And Fred was understandably pissed off about it. Dobson has no way of knowing Fred’s relationship with God or with Christ and had no business making such a statement. It also exemplifies the very thing that gives me nausea about what I call the Bible-Thumper faction of the conservative movement.

Neither do I. But I'm not talking trash about Christians.

"Bible thumper"? What's that mean? Someone who believes Scripture is relevant? No need to use such a derisive phrase when referring to "Bible-believing" Christians.

I don’t understand the outrage about Dobson’s statements. He wasn’t judging Thompson, he was just saying that Thompson didn’t appear to be a Christian and thus might have trouble getting the support of Evangelicals. Someone’s lack of involvement in any church might not matter to you but to many Evangelicals this is worth considering in deciding whether Thompson is the man that we want to support for President. Dobson’s other criticisms of Thompson have simply pointed out that Thompson puts a greater priority on his ultra-federalist positions than on protecting marriage or human life. Anyway, Dobson has a right to express his views and many social conservatives will agree with him. I am shocked and saddened that many here on FR are willing to compare a decent man like Dobson who has spent his life fighting to protect the family with a political hack like Jesse Jackson. It is this knee jerk hate of social conservatives which is slowly driving us out of the party. We frankly don’t feel very welcome and if we leave the party will lose.
