Fred Thompson on Harry Reid’s attacks on Rush Limbaugh

Posted on October 3rd, 2007
By Fred in Announcements

Congressional Democrats are trying to divert attention from insulting our military leader in Iraq and pandering to the loony left by attacking Rush Limbaugh. He is one of the strongest supporters of our troops, yet Democrats claim he is not being strong enough. I wonder who General Petraeus and his troops think is most supportive?

Read the letter that Reid and 40 other moonbats signed. While you're not going to see a direct quote of "not being strong enough", it is a more than reasonable interpretation of the latter to say that they are claiming that Limbaugh's support of the troops is insufficient due to some of them having differing political views.

Thompson's comment is spot on because it underscores how asinine the entire assumption that Limbaugh does not support soldiers is.

The opinion of a 1A rights infringer is “breaking news”??

I'm guessing it is. I did not put this thread in Breaking News.

The Admin Moderator did that.

Don’t mind ES... he’s just bitter because every prediction he had about Thompson turned out to be dead wrong.

No, I don’t mind him. He amuses me.

Month after month claiming he didn’t have a candidate, all because he didn’t want to have to defend Willard. I can hardly blame him for that.

sure, right......you must mean THIS sentence, right? /s

“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast.”

freddie is a go-along-to-get-along wimp.....(for now, but THAT will fail him quickly if the dems/move-on/mediamatters ever really have cause to deal with him)....and this is important to me because I have become tired of holding my nose as I cast my vote, since 1988. I’m an American, and conservative....not a Republican first or even foremost. Partisanship is how we get successions of wimpy or untoward Presidents and members of congress.

“He did exactly the right thing when he became fully aware of the situation.”

>>No, he did exactly the wrong thing on first instinct.

Then, once he realized the hot water he got himself into, he did the expedient thing, but even then, he had to be dragged into it by Hewitt.<<

“Mitt on September 28 swallowing the Media Matters line hook, line and sinker and, incredibly, SENDING A PRESS RELEASE TO THE FAR LEFT HUFFINGTON POST WEBSITE:”

“”””Governor Romney would disagree with the negative characterization of those men and women who serve with honor and distinction in the United States Military. There may be disagreements with individual opinions, but no one would ever dispute the fact that those members of the military who disagree with the war have earned the right to express that opinion.””””

Now read the transcripts of the Hugh Hewitt show, or anything else, ROMNEY HAS IGNORED RUSH AND THE ENTIRE ROMNEY’S THROWING OF RUSH UNDER THE BUS.

Romney did not apologize to Rush, he did not even acknowledge his campaigns attack on Rush or the Huffington Post press release.

Mitt Romney has not mentioned any of this scandal, he is letting it hang in the air, read the transcript of the Hewitt show, this Rush statement is never addressed, read Rush’s transcript below.

Can Romney be allowed to throw Rush under the bus and then just ignore it, and casually reverse message without even recognizing this major conservative scandal involving him, Huffington Post, and Rush Limbaugh?

“””RUSH Transcript:
“I didn’t talk about this last week, but Mitt Romney issued a statement much like he issued against — who did he throw under the bus? Oh. Larry Craig. He issued a statement: That’s reprehensible what Limbaugh said, horrible, whatever it was he said — and then later in the day somebody from his office called our office. “We just found out that this is a smear, and Mitt will say this if he’s asked about it.” He hasn’t been asked about it, so his statement still stands.””””

In the letter, the quote "but this affront to our soldiers is beyond the pale" can be interpreted as an accusation that he is disrespecting and insulting our troops. Anybody who is disrespecting and insulting our troops isn't "being strong enough" in supporting are troops are they?

Fine if we differ on our interpretations. Fine if you think he was too moderate in tone. Kind of a leap to bluntly call it a lie though.

Rush seems quite happy with Fred’s statement, and as the one under attack, I would think that opinion is the one that matters most.

Sounds to me like Romney doesn’t get it and doesn’t know what is going on. Perhaps he has a problem with reading comprehension, or perhaps he just reads the drive by media for his news.

Or maybe hes just a liberal that does not care about Rush.

parse them one above the other

Reid et al:
“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast.”

(fred said)
“...yet Democrats claim he [meaning Rush] is not being strong enough.”

Gimme a break!
Now Imagine freddie vs Putin.....oh wait!....first imagine freddie vs the dems/move-on/mediamatters/MSM.....

Why are Rudy and Rommney supporters so quiet about the non-support non-defense of Rush by their guys ?

Because they probably don't follow Rush that closley.

What, you prefer Romney's response (pick any of them), or Rudy's (oh wait, he's hiding in the sand).

Thompson cut right through the rhetoric and addressed the fundamental issue square on the head -- anyone who thinks Limbaugh would offend, denigrate, or disrespect our soldiers should be classified as the "loony left". What more needs to be said?

well, here’s a rare act of truthfulness.....and Boehner only has to satisfy his constituents in his district to stay in office

“All it takes to conclude that this is a manufactured controversy is a simple, cursory review of Mr. Limbaugh’s remarks, so pardon me if I am not moved by the crocodile tears shed by left-wing activists in recent days,’’ Boehner said. “Moveon.org and its cohorts on and off the Hill would certainly like to change the subject away from the slanderous advertisement they placed in the New York Times about U.S. General David Petraeus, but they are not going to distract anyone with a controversy manufactured out of whole cloth.

“Frankly,’’ the leader said, “there can be no comparison.’’

but wimpy freddie mumbled:
“...yet Democrats claim he [meaning Rush] is not being strong enough.”......

when in fact they said.....

“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast.”

Stupid statement by Romney. Limbaugh called them phoney soldiers because they falsified their military records to make it look like they'd seen combat and hadn't, a la Winter Soldier.

SHAME ON HIM.

Boehner's comments are little different than the part of Thompson's comments you leave out: "Congressional Democrats are trying to divert attention from insulting our military leader in Iraq and pandering to the loony left by attacking Rush Limbaugh."

What's your real agenda? Why aren't you attacking the lame, half-hearted (and butt-covering) response from Romney? Why aren't you attacking Giuliani or Hunter for their silence? Why are you attacking the one Presidential candidate who actually stood up for Limbaugh and against the Democrats?
