So, what is going to happen to Birkenstock’s stock around Christmas when all the anti-Establishment doesn’t have the money to buy new sandals?
Oh wait, I just realized.. Ron Paul is BRILLIANT.. This is how he plans to end the War on Drugs. He will get all the druggies to spend their drug money on his campaign instead. They won’t be able to buy pot and it will bankrupt the drug dealers... Brilliant!
Ron Paul is my hero.

dare I say it: folksiness
Maybe the mods need to ban the word "folksy". Seriously, I've never read it so many times in my life and every libmedia Fred article has it. Fred has charm but I think it kind of denigrates him to call him 'folksy' constantly. I think it is a deliberate slighting by libmedia. Will Rogers was "folksy", Mark Twain was "folksy". But you'd never elect either one president. I think that's why libmedia is pounding the whole "folksy" thing so hard. And no doubt, they'll use it to play a populist card against him as well and try to start calling him a William Jennings Bryant or something like that.
In other fundraising news, I did read one report that Richardson had a one-week fundraising challenge ending tonight for ONE...MILLION...DOLLARS (shades of Dr. Evil). But reports are that he succeeded in less than a week. I think Richardson's antiwar stance has drawn the antiwar vote and money to him, especially given how pro-war the other Dim candidates have become lately.
Edwards may yet fail having taken ten days (last reported at $921,000 since yesterday at noon and apparently stalled there). I expect at the last minute, they'll just shuffle money around and falsely report they made the million so they can brag about it. Or Edwards will get some trial lawyer buddies to finish the total and he'll slip the money back to them some other way.
Of course, Edwards has committed to taking matching funds for his campaign. So the very best way to harm the Dims would be to find ways to help Edwards get the nomination. The $76M restriction on the general election campaign if you take public funding would virtually doom him, no matter who we ran.
Looks like Hitlery and Obama will both raise around $20M in 3Q. Very strong money for both of them. And Obama has an absolutely huge number of contributors, maybe the largest in both parties.

lol, that is rich.
The one campaign whose sole support is composed only of individuals, devoid of lobbyists and special intersts, combining small donations or acting alone to promote liberty, asking for nothing and receiving no favors in return.
Why don’t we abolish unconstitutional McCain Feingold and the FCC before we start worrying about harassing the i’s and t’s of these groups of hard working folks who want nothing more than their god granted liberties.

He's a legitimate presidential candidate who in all likelihood could win several primary states Name two.

He could take New Hampshire and Texas, for starters. I don’t think he will win the nomination, but he’s going to give whoever the front-runner the nominee is a run for their money. The GOP should at least let him speak at the convention.
To: 2ndDivisionVet
Looking at the Richardson blog site, it looks like he's going to take matching funds too.
Not sure if they have to take matching funds in the general if they take them in the primary though. I thought so before but I haven't seen it stated definitively yet. So Edwards or Richardson might be able to get the nomination via matching funds campaigns and then eschew them for the general.

Those chapters you describe are rank-and-file support, from general Republican activists who drafted Fred to begin with. Does Fred Thompson have people who never voted or took part in the political process before going out there volunteering on their own time and money though? Is he able to bring in a broad coalition of libertarian, swing, and independent votes? Fred’s “buzz” is pure Republican Party base. But with his views on federalism he can bring a large percentage of these folks into the GOP, which is why it’s suicide to keep denigrating Paul and his supporters when you know you’re going to need their votes in the general.

He is so determined to loose he will not care how he does it.Sigh, learn how to spell lose please. Amazing how many people on FR spell lose as loose (as in my pants are loose).

But he is America's enemies best friend. In Iraq maybe but he'd also completely shut the border off and enforce immigration laws tightly. It's very arguable that he is more pro-security than Bush is--even including his ridiculous Iraq stance.

Note that Ron is barely on the radar as of September, 2007 based on this poll in New Hampshire. Interestingly enough, in the national poll, less than a noticable amount of INDEPENDENTS (who I've been told will make the difference in a Presidential campaign) are jumping on the bandwagon.
As for Texas, the results look little better for Ronnie.
IVR Polls
8/29/2007
Texas

Fred Thompson 25%
Rudy Giuliani 21%
Mitt Romney 15%
Mike Huckabee 13%
John McCain 8%
Ron Paul 5%

Other 8%
Not impossible, but highly improbable.

I believe (according to a blog that did some sort of analysis) the average donation during this million dollar fundraiser was aprox $100. Big bundlers do maximums, 4600 per couple and reinburse them using backdoor methods.

Dang, I’ve got to donate $100 to RP, because my RP crazed son (who keeps on getting banned on FR) beat me in the mile, with a time of 5:40.

Again, polls are meaningless for now. Keep in mind that NH is a very libertarian-independent state and the blogs got Paul at 25%. Paul could take the state easily or come in 2nd to Fred.
