Unexploded Rocket-Propelled Grenade Impales Army Private in Afghanistan By RUTH REISS
[snip]
One RPG skidded past Lt. Mariani's vehicle. All of the vehicles had to quickly get out of the "kill zone." But before they could get to safety, two rockets hit Pvt. Moss' Humvee.
Staff Sgt. Eric Wynn, 33, the soldier in the front passenger seat, felt one slice through his face. Moss remembers the truck practically lift up. He was thrown up against the Humvee and then moved to return fire.
"I smelled something smoking and I looked down ... and I was smoking," he said.
Wynn turned to tell Moss where to fire and saw the tail fins of the RPG sticking out of Moss' side.
Roughly the length of a baseball bat, an RPG travels at the speed of a bullet. At the front end is the warhead -- a large grenade. The detonator and fuel are contained in the shaft. On the back are its fins, pieces of metal that stick out like legs on a camera tripod. The RPG is the weapon of choice for many of the world's guerillas.
Luckily for Moss, the company medic Spc. Jared Angell, 23, who the soldiers call "Doc," was in his Humvee

A Human Bomb The RPG that had plowed into Moss' lower abdomen stretched from one hip to the other. If the RPG went off, it would kill everyone within 30 feet of him. Yet Angell stayed close, bandaging his wounds and stabilizing the weapon so that movement wouldn't cause it to explode.
Moss was still fully conscious, so Angell ordered him to not look down at the injury. He didn't want Moss to panic.

Otch!
20s? Otch indeed.
20s this time of year? Definitely otch! That’s more like our midwinter peak lows.
Nice view!
I have Mt. Rainier in my office window. Winter mornings are beautiful, watching the sunrise.
So much for global warming...
It’s not bad. I used to have a west-facing office — not bad, except for the Microsoft construction cranes and awful light in the afternoon. I like this north-facing office better, except for not being able to see incoming weather.
You don’t like the light? Are you a vampire?
Nope. Seattleite, next thing to troglodyte -- Evil Yellow Face iss to be avoided because it burnses our skinses, it doess, it hurtss our eyeses (why the per-capita ownership of sunglasses is highest in Seattle), and it discolors our prized "Seattlite White" -- one measure by which we detect Kalifornikaans in our midst.
Another good method of detection is reaction to precipitation: Seattleites have a carefully calibrated response to same, ranging from simply ignoring some levels, to walking briskly to others, to running only in the heaviest. Only furriners use umbrellas, and Kalifornians run from all precip!
If you like cool and wet, Seattle's a great place to be. (I love it here, it's so much like Scotland!)
Otherwise, I recommend California. Highly. You won't like it here, believe me.
Unless you're a conservative, in which case we WANT you to move here to this thoroughly delightful, beautiful and wonderful corner of the country with its ultra-mild climate, and help us fight off the "blue" infestation.
California would be good for weather but awful politically, and I can’t afford to go anywhere anyway. Just making sure I don’t need a cross around you lol.
The Peoples' Republic of Washington isn't a whole lot better than Kalifornia, but as one of the Traditional Anglican Ping List pingers I could advise you to wear a cross -- but won't.
Lol. I’ve really been playing with fire the past two days on here, I’m surprised I didn’t get a timeout.
Good morning. 58’s and fog, but the rain has stopped. Four children and their father have left for a campout.
Back from electioneering, and now I have to take the byos (and Ubiquitous Anoreth) to buy crickets for the lizards.
When I was transferring the contents of the boxes to tubs for two days this week, I found enough crickets in some of the boxes to keep your lizards happy for the rest of their natual lives.
I also found two black widows, and something I didn’t recognize, but sprayed, anyway. *shudder*
Good morning/afternoon, TC.We have similar weather here too, blargh.
It should be nice to run later. My toes got cold earlier while I was delivering campaign leaflets!
Last post?
Not any more.
Nope. Not by a long shot.
Well, there y’all are! It’s sunny and 71 here, the brothers are eating chocolate chip banana muffins, and the catz are snoozing.
