NEW ORLEANS -- A federal appeals court has rejected a second appeal from the New Orleans district attorney over a ruling that said he violated the civil rights of dozens of white employees when he fired them and replaced them with black workers after taking office in 2003.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals turned aside a request by Orleans Parish prosecutor Eddie Jordan to have the full court review the case.
Earlier, a three-judge panel of the 5th Circuit upheld the verdict against Jordan, that, with interest, means Jordan's office owes the ex-workers and their attorneys about $3.5 million.
In 2005, a jury rejected Jordan's contention that he filled key positions with political supporters and did not discriminate based on race when he took over from longtime District Attorney Harry Connick Sr. in 2003.
In his appeal, Jordan had argued that jurors did not have enough evidence to reach that conclusion.
Plaintiff attorney Clement Donelon said that Jordan's only remaining option is to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case. Because of the latest ruling, Donelon says a stay on collecting the verdict will expire Sept. 26.
Donelon said that he is prepared to seize assets of the district attorney's office, including its payroll account. Donelon said the office does not have insurance to pay the verdict. Jordan is not personally responsible for payment.

The voters deserve to pay, not the US taxpayer.
But will he be fired or recalled? Certainly not.What a worthless city.
Some plaintiffs sued Eddie Jordan directly. Not sure what happened to the case but I do know he tried to claim bankruptcy and a judge denied him.

This is ths FIRST time I’ve heard about this story. I haven’t heard anything about it in the so called media.

Detroit, MI: (Sep-11-07) Former Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown and former mayoral bodyguard Harold Nelthrope brought a whistleblower lawsuit against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, exposing alleged misdeeds by the mayor’s staff and extramarital affairs by the mayor himself. Brown claimed he was fired in 2003 because he was looking into allegations of drunken driving accidents, falsified overtime records and a possible cover up of incidents involving members of the security unit. He said he was investigating claims from two former mayoral bodyguards that the mayor used his bodyguards to facilitate and cover up extramarital affairs.
In a settlement reached, a jury ruled in favor of the two former Detroit police officers, awarding them $6.5 million in the whistleblower lawsuit. Kilpatrick stated that he was shocked by the jury’s decision, and that he did not admit to any liability or wrongdoing.

I’ve been told, that Physicians who have to break the bad news to patients who only have a few months to live - recommend that they move to New Jersey......saying “It’ll feel like a lifetime”..

Of course, in the New Jersey case, it was none other than the new Governor of my home state of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, who was involved in that fiasco.
He'd probably still be trying to get the case to the Supreme Court if Jesse Jackson hadn't told him to take it down a notch.

I'm fairly certain that if you read the Times-Picayune, you'd be familiar with at least some of the facts of the case.
