WASHINGTON — Thousands of opponents and supporters of the U.S. presence in Iraq will converge Saturday in the nation's capital for a day of demonstrations.

The anti-war ANSWER Coalition is planning a rally at Lafayette Square, followed by a march to the Capitol and "die-in," where thousands plan to risk arrest by entering areas where they're not supposed to go.

Meanwhile, a groups that support the Iraq war are planning a rally of their own. Gathering of Eagles and Free Republic are set to meet on the Mall and line the protest route.

Lafayette Square is a seven-acre public park located directly north of the White House on H Street between 15th and 17th Streets, NW. The Square and the surrounding structures were designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1970. Originally planned as part of the pleasure grounds surrounding the Executive Mansion, the area was called "President's Park". The Square was separated from the White House grounds in 1804 when President Jefferson had Pennsylvania cut through. In 1824, the Square was officially named in honor of General Lafayette of France. snipped from: http://www.nps.gov/history/nr/travel/wash/dc30.htm *

C-Span will be showing both rallies tomorrow (on Sunday). Not being carried live, if I am not mistaken.

I just got back. I wasn’t feeling well this morning, so I didn’t get there until mid-afternoon. As luck would have it, the ANSWER crowd was hours behind schedule.

The Move America Forward group had a good turnout at a few spots by the Capital. The funniest moment came when one of the guys on our side started giving a seminar to the other side on how to use soap. “Lather your body with the soap! You must then rinse! Then repeat!” Okay, a bit silly, but funny.

I’ll admit it was the best-behaved ANSWER march I had ever seen. I walked through them wearing my “commies aren’t cool” t-shirt and nobody gave me a hard time.

There was the usual screaming across the lines and one apparent assault, but the police were there pretty quickly.
The Answer crowd did have a fair number of people wearing head scarfs in the style that Arafat favored. I wasn’t sure if that was a pro-terrorist statement.

Missed seeing you.

We were along the parade route in front of the Navy Memorial.

I had a couple of signs: “Hippies Smell” (which annoyed quite a few of them) and a loaner courtesy of Jimmy Valentine’s Brother. It showed Harry Reid looking dour and the word “Traitor” above it.

Lots of people on our side wanted a picture of that.

I had at least 10 people on the left’s side ask who the picture of Harry Reid was.

I had a lot of fun also with “Fry Mumia”. Several people tried to tell me that Wesley Cook didn’t off that Phila. policeman. A number of people asked why I had that sign since “this protest wasn’t about that.” I didn’t let them off the hook though, mentioning their side’s support for him.

Fox had some live shots earlier. Griff Jenkins interviewed one of the ‘dead’.

“Lather your body with the soap!

I heard that. I was across the street and NW of you.

No kidding, when the front of the march came by, it actually stunk.

Griff Jenkins interviewed one of the ‘dead’.

The one who read in her history books about Nixon's war?

Oh yeah....and LBJ, too.

CSPAN covered both events, will have it on tomorrow sometime.

Fox News cut into regular programing throughtout the day, especially when the moonbats started getting arrested.

The one that Griff interviewed was quite a piece of work, called the general a coward.

A fine patriot to be sure, but not Dr. Raoul. The speaker was a black man. I hadn’t seen him at freeper events before, so he was probably with one of the other patriotic organizations there. Move America Forward, perhaps.
