Russia tests powerful 'dad of all bombs'
Houston Chronicle/AP ^ | Sept. 11, 2007

MOSCOW — The Russian military has successfully tested what it described as the world's most powerful non-nuclear air-delivered bomb, Russia's state television reported Tuesday.

Channel One television said the new ordnance, nicknamed the "dad of all bombs" is four times more powerful than the U.S. "mother of all bombs."

"The tests have shown that the new air-delivered ordnance is comparable to a nuclear weapon in its efficiency and capability," Alexander Rukhsin, a deputy chief of the Russian military's General Staff, said in televised remarks.

The statement comes amid the Kremlin's efforts to restore Russia's global clout and rebuild the nation's military might.

The U.S. Massive Ordnance Air Blast, nicknamed the Mother Of All Bombs, is a large-yield satellite-guided, air delivered bomb described as the most powerful non-nuclear weapon in history.

Tehran would be a good place to test it

Unfortunately Tehran is probably who they will sell it to as Putin continues to build and arm his new Persian empire alliance.

Why is it these communists, instead of using their new found prosperity to build a more stable and prosperous nation, always think "screw the people, we need to rebuild our war machine"?
They are the evil of the world, as if by natures design.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Ever stop to think how much Muslims are like Aliens? They move in pursuit of goals we can barely understand, they cannot be turned by reason, they will not allow co-existance, and they incubate inside their host society, hidden away, until it is time to burst on the scene, destroying everything that they can. Nukes from orbit sounds really good. However, I suggest neutron bombs so the oil is still good.

Perhaps they should re-name it the Dad Of Offensive Bombs.

Then they could threaten their enemies with smokin' a DOOB on 'em.

"Air transportable means something different to Russians than it does to Syrians.

I was thinking along those lines as well. What good is this DOAB if they only way they can deliver it is with their biggest and slowest moving heavy transport aircraft? We can build a DOAB too, but loading 80,000 lbs (4 MOABS @20,000lbs ea) becomes a major factor why making such a thing is pointless.

This seems kind of stupid to me. The size of any bomb would be limited only by the ability of a plane to carry it.

In WW2, the Germans used the small FW190 fighter plane to carry their largest (4,000lb) bomb, simply by lengthening the tailwheel strut so the bomb fins would clear the ground.
I doubt if they did it very often, and taking off was probably a nightmare, but they did it.

Is it just a statement, or was there really a test? Did we get to monitor it? If not, I’m skeptical of all commie rooskie claims (including the claim that they’re not commie anymore).

MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has tested a thermobaric bomb that is the most powerful in the world, a top military official said Tuesday.

Known as a vacuum bomb, it uses a fuel-air explosive and can create overpressures equal to an atomic bomb, said Alexander Rukshin, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

“It is environmentally friendly, compared to a nuclear bomb, and it will enable us to ensure national security and at the same time stand up to international terrorism in any part of the globe and in any situation,” he said.

He stressed that the bomb does not violate any of the international agreements that Russia has signed.
