Thanks Doli. A wonderful tribute. And yes we haven't forgotten. I posted this on another thread. I'll just repeat it here.
A message to Osama Ben Hidin if you are still alive. You are a gutless impotent little coward. If the best attack you can pull off is some old video clip you really are irrelevant. Come out of your cave and die like a man (if you haven't assumed room temperature years ago).
Tanks to all who have kept us safe for 6 years since that day. Pres. Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Pat Tillman, those on Flight 93 that fought back, all those who are serving their country in this War on Terror. I salute you.
My first emotion on Sept. 11th was anger and I think that's still true.

Thanks for this thread. I can’t believe it has been 6 years. Six years of relative safety and still President Bush gets bashed. How that must encourage our enemy! I pray today for all the victims and their families. I remember that morning vividly. The phone rang, it was my brother in law telling us about the plane hitting the first tower so we rushed to turn the tv on and saw the second plane hit. I don’t think the tv got turned off for a couple of days. God Bless America!

Six years ago, we knew. Go read Instapundit’s archives of that day. We knew it was Bagdad. George Bush didn’t trump that up. We knew.
Thankfully, we no longer need the MSM’s filters of “perspective” or trumped up, biased “looks back at 911” specials. The Internet has a looonnnggg memory, that’s searchable. There’s hope.

Big & Rich - Our America (Click to listen) (w/ Gretchen Wilson & Cowboy Troy)
Wilson: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union
Cowboy Troy: I have a dream, a dream that one day
Rich: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal And they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights
Big Kenny: That among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
B&R/GW: Oh say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Cowboy Troy: I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America
B&R/GW: Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
Cowboy Troy: And to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God
B&R/GW: And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
Cowboy Troy: Indivisible
B&R/GW: O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
Cowboy Troy: With liberty and justice for all
B&R/GW: O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? |

Alan Jackson - Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning (Click to listen) Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day Out in the yard with your wife and children Working on some stage in LA Did you stand there in shock at the site of That black smoke rising against that blue sky Did you shout out in anger In fear for your neighbor Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children Who lost their dear loved ones And pray for the ones who don't know Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride For the red white and blue The heroes who died just doing what they do Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer And look at yourself to what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs I'm not a real political man I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you The difference in Iraq and Iran But I know Jesus and I talk to God And I remember this from when I was young Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day Teaching a class full of innocent children Driving down some cold interstate Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor In a crowded room did you feel alone Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her Did you dust off that bible at home Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened Close your eyes and not go to sleep Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages Speak with some stranger on the street Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow Go out and buy you a gun Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger Stand in line and give your own blood Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs I'm not a real political man I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you The difference in Iraq and Iran But I know Jesus and I talk to God And I remember this from when I was young Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us And the greatest is love

These are such poignant pictures. As I was on the road that day I missed the all day TV coverage that was so horrific.

Oh, c'mon give 'em a chance. They live in a
very repressive culture, under almost absolute control of clerics who manipulate them in ways which would make Tony Soprano squeamish.
Like anyone living a repressed life some Muslims are going to have violent issues later in life. Their madness is culturally-based because their repression is culturally-based. There's you're terrorists.
It's the converts in the West I worry about. They use Islam as a mask for their animosity, cultural hatred and lack of civility while avoiding the social requirements and controls of Islam. They're the real Islamic scumbags in my opinion.
Traveling in the ME you'll find Muslims are usually nice and normal people. Even if you encounter some who don't like you/the West you can still deal with them cordially if you hold your ground. That will gain you respect and even some degree acceptance. They're traditionalists and with a little tact they are easy or even pleasant to get along with. Some of the most cordial traveling experiences I've had have been in Arab countries with Muslims. All the normal personal dynamics work and in the end most actually value the West for the gains its made and the opportunity it holds. Many look up to us, so lets display decent character and not look down upon them, eh?
We should hold Muslim cultural extremists responsible for 9/11 the same as we hold the West's cultural extremists responsible for their attacks upon America. Both extremists hate our freedoms, success and strengths whereas the vast majority of people in both cultures value them. Blame the extremists, not the people.

I got this link from Free Republic some years ago -
http://www.gunstuff.com/america-attacked.html
I think a lot of Freepers will recognize the link. It was a very moving piece. I would send it via email every 9/11. Now, the link is not working. Does anyone know if it moved someplace else?
