Any list of the worst cars without the Vega shouldn’t be taken seriously. Those cars were made of compressed rust just waiting for the paint to fall off.

As far as looks go...I liked the vega. But you are right in that they were rust prone. There are damned few to be seen even here in Arizona.

Hey, the motor didn’t rust! The job of that motor was to lube the entire car with oil (blown out the rear main seal) so rust was slowed considerably...
The Vega ran just fine with a SBC (small block Chevy) under the hood.

I thought the article was funny and a good read. I must agree with you, when I read the headline the Vega, Gremlin and Edsel came to mind and the Vega not being on this list is a tragedy.

Ain’t that the truth. Mine was rusting in less than 3 years. And it was the only car I ever had that required me to carry a screwdriver for the choke & a spare battery in the back.

I bought it as a beater to knock around in on gravel/dirt roads while going fishing and hunting, and it only let me down twice in the 140K+ mile I had it. Once when the timing belt broke, and when it finally died after holing a piston. By that time, the body had basically disintegrated, and I paid to have it hauled off.

When I was a teenager, my buddy and I carpooled to work. He'd pick me up at 3:30 in the morning in his '74 Chevy Vega.
In the wintertime, even after it had a half hour to warm up, he'd have to put the gas pedal completely to the floor just to get up over 30 mph.
There were times I probably could have walked to work faster.
