Thanks for the flashback with the Vega pictures and advertising materials — the 74 Vega was my first new car. Had to get something to replace the gas-guzzling 70 Ford Torino GT w/a 429 and thought the Vega was just the ticket...LOL! Got rid of it in 1976 and not a minute too soon!

It also used to take a good ten minutes to get myself and my wheelchair into it.

Bless your heart for not complaining and taking care of yourself!

what model Vega was that 74 brochure, with the mags and white lettered tires? Still looks nicer thn the average Vega.

Notice the woman flirting with the ice cream man. In 74 it was pre daisy dukes and her shorts were like that

I’ve had 2 cars that definitely belong on the list. A Ford Fairmont 4 door auto and a Chevy Vega. I think I had them both in about the mid 80s.

Yeah, you’re probably right, guess I was being charitable when probably shouldn’t have.

No kidding. When I was in HS (graduated in 84) if you had a beater, it was great because at least you had a car.
Now these little delicate geniuses will never know the great feeling of breaking down in a dark parking lot after a movie. Having to pour a quart of oil into the car every time you go more than a mile, etc...

I suspect the design was licensed (from Opel, ie GM Germany) to Daewoo for sale in that part of the world, with considerable reworking (read cheapening) for that market, and GM decided it would be a great idea to bring it in as a cheap, fuel-efficient car to add to their lineup here. Selling a crapheap like that, with the LeMans name on it of all things, is a prime example of how GM earned its reputation with people like me. Even by late 80s/early 90s GM standards, though, it was truly craptacular.

Warning:

I have been known to stomp and bitch-slap tattooed, pierced, spiked teens who tell me during job interviews

Sorry, Dude, I don't drive stick.

That goes double if they have an old Kerry/Edwards sticker on their Mazda.

That’s the way it should be.
