It doesnt take much to get thrown off an airplane these days, as Kyla Ebbert found out when a Southwest Airlines employee told her she was too bare for the air. Two months later, shes still trying to figure out what was wrong with her outfit.
In an exclusive appearance Friday on TODAY, Ebbert modeled the outfit she says she wore on the flight in question. It consisted of a snug-fitting white top with a scoop neck that stopped just short of showing cleavage.
Over the shirt was a green sweater that buttoned underneath her bosom. It was finished with high-heeled sandals and a white denim mini-skirt with a fashionably frayed hem.
It was a lot more clothing than the 23-year-old college student wears on her job as a Hooters waitress. Her mother, Michele Ebbert, said she would have told her daughter if the outfit was inappropriate.
But her outfit is fine, Michele Ebbert told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer. She looks like every other college girl in San Diego.
Not according to a Southwest employee identified only as Keith, who approached Ebbert after she had taken her seat on the plane and was listening to the flight attendants go through their pre-departure routine.
He told me, Im sorry, but youre going to have to take a later flight. Youre dressed inappropriately. This is a family airline. Youre dressed too provocative to fly on this flight, she told Lauer.
I said, What part of it, the shirt, the skirt? Which part? Ebbert continued, recounting her conversation with Keith about her outfit. And he said, The whole thing. I said, I didnt bring any luggage with me. I dont have anything to change into. What can I do to make sure I can get onto that flight? ...

I’ll just take the hot poker in my eye now...thanks.
Wow, Fawn. I bet you make lots of new friends now. Have you seen Brad Paisley’s new video? It’s all about this sort of stuff.
Hey, Laz, I’m sure that’s not you and glad of it. I’m no expert, but that guy looks pretty gay to me.
From the still shot, it looks as though if the shirt is not covering part of her abdomen, the skirt will reveal either the top or bottom of her crotch, which might have been the problem...
Then whoever took that picture made her look my size.
I like nicely dressed women with one caveat: when it’s around 110F they should only wear a pair of roller skates.
nice pic, but how was she wearing things at the time in question? I read reports thst she pulled her shirt down to cover her stomach and pulled her skirt down a bit before she was let back on th plane. I think the pic is the G rated version and of course presents an acceptable level of modesty. Again, what did things look like when she got on the plane, that’s what we need to see to make an informed comment on the SWA decision.
The whole dam thing coulda been a setup. All she would need to do is wait for a couple grandmotherly types to walk in her direction, then give them a good eyefull of her unmentionables, and sit back.
They complain, the plane folks get involved, she goes on the Today show with the “All I wanted was an apology” BS, pretty soon she gets her undisclosed 100K settlement from the airline...
ME TOO. I hate like hell to read the judgments of people who look like..well, like people. I guess if she was a model it would be more acceptable? What do her looks have to do with anything?
I’ve seen pics of movie stars in airports that are dressed far worse.
And not one of the gentlemen there offered to switch places with the lady so she wouldn’t have to straddle the floor bump?
Geez. What has happened to courtesy?
Nope! :)
That was a bit of karma payback for her behavior earlier that day.
Tou’r right I believe. And Somebody flashes crotch shots would definitely draw attention, which is what she intented. IMO Although not from an “disinterested” flight attendent
Until the MSM latched on to it....
Damned Media /;-)
There is nothing inappropriate about that outfit. Keith needs counseling.
The problem is that some people’s idea of decency is stuck in the ‘50’s. There was nothing about this girl’s outfit that is shocking or risque. I can’t believe the prudishness on display here. The Church Lady would be embarrased.
That would be a damned good start.
That sounds good on the surface, but in the end, I'm going to have to disagree. Having traveled, I could see a major dilema in running into trouble at your 3rd connection, after 2 flights without incident then running headlong into an arbitrary rule or a gay/muslim flight attendant could leave you stranded. The carrier needs a policy understandable in advance to prevent this occurance.
