Ron Paul Wins Debate but Republicans Won't Gamble on Him

Ron Paul clearly won the Republican presidential debate last night held in New Hampshire. Viewers were asked to text in their thoughts on who won the debate, Ron Paul received 34%, Giuliani 17%, all others lower. Fred Thompson who did not appear at the debate was clearly the largest loser as his pro-war stance and republican hard line talking points seem to be not what the people are looking for.

Sean Hannity, Fox News pundit, was clearly upset with the results and deliberately ridiculed Congressman Ron Paul. Although outpacing all other candidates by a 2-1 margin, it was clear that Chris Wallace and Brit Hume had tones of sarcasm when talking of Ron Paul. Giving absolutely no credence to Cong. Paul's responses, they even cut off his answer in a heated exchange between Paul and Huckabee, then declaring that Huckabee won the debate on that point.

Ron Paul demonstrated last night that he is the only Republican candidate that gives any thought to issues and his answers, all others gave stock replies and mostly followed the party line.

The dems only supported the war because it was political suicide not to at the time. Their true colors have been displayed since about 6 months into the campaign.

Clintonian nation building is when you go to Yugoslavia to take sides and “peacekeep” when neither side was our enemy. Saddam Hussein was our enemy. He had his fingerprints all over 911 and the first World trade center bombing. He was harboring and abetting terrorists of all stripes. And he was not abiding by the ceasefire agreement we had with him.

9-11 opened alot of peoples eyes about the need to crush the islamo scumbags, no matter where they are. Not Paul’s though. It’s our fault for having military bases on sacred islamic soil, in his twisted little mind.

True that! I have a friend in CA who is so far left and I was shocked when he told me he was supporting RP. After listening to RP, now I know why he likes him! :]

The problem is simple denial that Iran is any more of a threat than was the old Soviet Union. Russia would have delivered nukes by conventional and trackable means: missiles with radar signatures, planes with stars on the side, etc. Had Russia attacked, it would have been an obvious causus bellum with a clear enemy. It was unmistakable who to target by all accounts.

By contrast, by its actions Iran has proven it will stoop to nuclear terrorism at the first opportunity, whence the terrorists could deny the origin of the weapon. How do you declare nuclear war against a country when you can't prove the origin of the attack? Heck, the terrorists could claim they got the weapon from Pakistan or off the Russian black market. What could we do about that under a Ron Paul administration?

Nothing. Ron Paul's mentality is driven by the assumptions on the nature of national warfare common to the 18th Century. Unless his detractors makes that distinction clear in their answers, Paul will continue to get away with it.

All of that could be said in a 60 second response. There is no excuse for Presidential candidates to stand there dumbfounded and let Paul take that moral high ground. The one who does shut him down will have won an important moral and political victory.

Paul support doesn’t need spam when 70% of voters agree that our troops should not be dying in nation building or being street cop in a 1000 year religious civil war. When we got Saddam and they got the purple finger vote, our job was finished.

Ron Paul demonstrated to me that he is not desirable as a President. He is cut and run and a disgrace to the accomplishments by our military.

He got a lot of cheers from the stacked crowd when he clamored for withdrawal. He will never get my vote.

“A bunch of Dems, probably teenagers, texting votes for their favorite “Republican” candidate”

I’d wager most of those text messages were from DU’ers, Pauls’ base.

In addition to Paul's cohorts in stupidity...you have the wacky and evil left along with crazy dims texting in to skew that polls...most conservatives are more interested in hearing all the worthy candidates, and still are not ready to commit...my opinion...we saw a great debate, with excellent quality men of character and principle...

Paul will get us killed! figuratively and literally!

a Rino “Kusinich”

Ron Paul is as different from the leftist dingbat Kucinich as any Republican in government.

They're both opposed to the war in Iraq...but, other than that, they have absolutely no common beliefs.

Here is an article from one of the few leftists who seems to recognize that Ron Paul is not one of them...that, in fact, Ron Paul is more conservative than any candidate running

Why Kucinich And Not Ron Paul

"He was a cheerleader for invading Iraq, and it's now been shown to be a mistake."

So it's a matter of fact now? I'm confident that history will just the Jihad appeasers very harshly.

I hope RP runs as an independent. He will take more votes from the rat party than the republicans. Especially after Hillary waffles some more.

Hannity’s cackling while Paul was trying to answer was classless and beneath contempt.

At least one of those incidents was the leftwing mayor.

Hunter is the ONLY one to utter the term “victory”. And his answer that those who think we are going to be there a long time “do not know the determination of our Army and Marines” was perfect. Petraeus has turned them loose to take out the insurgency and they are succeeding. Hunter tried to jump in when Paul was uttering his nonsense, hence the ‘Halleluja’ when they finally let him speak. Huckabee tried to argue with Paul, but was kinda weak.

“Fred Thompson will be just like this too whenever he debates.”

I think Fred will be unique, a first-tierer who speaks his own mind.

exactly. I don’t put it past the Dems to have a team of paid 14 year olds with cell phones)to flood the polls.

“But that also says that the other candidates don’t have very enthusiastic supporters.”

Pretty much true, as far as it goes.

But you can be sure that Ron Paul has some pretty fierce detractors. Myself included. He’s a cut-and-run fool, with his head buried a mile deep in the sand. His answer about Iran was just as foolish... we should “talk to them.” Yeah, so how’s that been going?

He is a fool, but luckily not too dangerous a fool, since he’ll be mostly ignored by anyone with the ability to think.

Ron Paul not only didn’t WIN ... he LOST. He was the only candidate CLEARLY flattened by a Chris Wallace question ... “so your saying we should take our marching orders from Al Qaeda?” (after Ron Paul stated, specifically, that the U.S. should leave the Arabian peninsula because the terrorists want us to).

Mike Huckabee was among the more successful candidates at the debate because he took Paul on directly.

The ridiculous poll you cited was both unscientific, and entirely useless. Even Alan Colmes, a liberal anti-war wacko, rolled his eyes at the results ... and Hannity correctly noted that it was probably the same dozen people texting their votes repeatedly. Paulistas are notorious for spamming unscientific online and text-message polls to make their miniscule candidate look more formidible than he actually is.

I am getting the nagging feeling that most Ron Paul supporters are simply left-wing anti-war activists, wayward liberals straggling over from DU, that have registered for FR ID’s.
