Ron Paul blames our country for 9/11. Defend that.

No, he doesn't. He blames Osama and al-Qaeda. He does not fail to identify Saudi involvement either.

So I don't need to defend RP against your spurious charge.

well, I watched the whole debate and I have to say I was a little dissaponted Paul spent all his time on foreign policy. He fumbled around with it a bit, not stressing the nonintervention and nonnationbuilding and robert taft approach. He had a perfect opportunity to hit one out of the park against the IRS and went off on a tangent. I think he should have stressed his domestic agenda more. He also seemed a bit too angry. So, I still think he did well, but he has this wonderful domestic agenda, the most conservative constituional candidate on, which he didn’t even mention. Also, what was the slip up about international law about? He sponsored one of the only bills introduced to get the US out of the UN!

Keep in mind he is not a conventional socialist pol of either party. His background is that of a doctor, not a lawyer like Giuliani or Romney. These folks are debate champs with plenty of drill and rehearsal from their campaign machines. The other second-tier candidates, non-lawyers, did little better, mostly borrowing GOP/WH talking points or trying to co-opt the positions and smooth rhetoric of the frontrunner campaigns like Giuliani or Romney.

If you watch the key sequences twice, you'll notice that RP was quite strong in his responses, despite provocation and attack questions or rude remarks from other Republicans on the stage. And Hume/Wallace were playing gotcha with all the candidates but focusing most on Ron Paul and discrediting him with their own political views. You'd think that Hume was running for office. Or maybe just for Giuliani's press secretary.

I suppose if we're electing a Debater-In-Chief, I might have to reconsider my support for RP.

Not exactly. He received over 50% of all donations from those employed by the military, both active-duty and civilian employees. The numbers were overall small but quite surprising to everyone. Then you can look for active-duty vets supporting RP personally. Like in the following video, the first of many we expect in coming months. It's a very nice video from Iraq, RP is mentioned only briefly at the end.

A few comments about our candidates (mostly on their physical attributes):

It struck me that 3 out of 4 of our top tier candidates have all had or have cancer. Guiliani (prostate), McCain (skin), Thompson [now that he’s official](leukemia). Not sure what this means, if anything, but I suspect somehow the Dems will try to make use of this fact. Hitlery is the oldest of the 3 top tier Dem candidates (a fairly young bunch). A couple of our guys look and/or are old: Thompson and McCain (although Fred looks like he may have been recently botoxed). Hope camparisons aren’t made as to vitality and pep, but my guess is that the MSM as well as the Dems will play this up if either of these two are our nominee. If Romney is the nominee, his looks will also come into play: too good looking, and is therefore slick, or in Huckabee’s case, too glib and like a used car salesman. Brownback always looks like he has a stick up his *ss. Plus he has slitty looking eyes, like they are always half closed. Prudish, pursed lips, overly moralistic. Ron Paul looks and is nutz. Tancredo has a ski slope for a nose. Vies with Bob Hope’s for upward curvature. Duncan Hunter seems most presidential in looks and stature. A solid looking, squared off kind of guy. However, have you ever noticed how he always stands at the podium on an angle? He never stands front-on. Always at a quarter angle. Interesting, wonder why. Check out our candidates and see if I am not right, not that any of this is of significance. Just musing.

Right on every one. The problem is, there is no one top tier who I think can win. Like you said, Rudy has baggage, Mitts full of bs, McCain is establishment. Perhaps Thompson.

I also look at the wives. Like it or not, the wives are a big piece of how the candidate is percieved. Think of the damage Theresa did Kerry.

We can’t have any weaknesses because of the extra push the MSM gives Hillary.
