ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A person associated with the suspicious item was on a flight to Denver. That flight has landed and the FBI and the Transportation Safety Administration have contacted that passenger.
The suspicious item has been removed from the airport and is being examined by the FBI and Eugene Police Explosives Unit.”
...The Eugene Police Explosives Disposal Unit examined the device and determined it was a simulated explosives device that resembled a pipe bomb.
A passenger aboard flight 6649 from Eugene to Denver was detained by the FBI in Denver. The FBI continues to question that passenger.

Denver FBI questions Eugene man after bomb scare

A piece of steel pipe wrapped in electricians tape prompted the evacuation and closure of the Eugene Airport on Thursday. The airport has reopened. The item was found in a passengers checked baggage. Eugene police said it was not an actual bomb, but closely resembled one. The passenger was being questioned by FBI agents at the Denver airport.

Eugene Airport update snippet:
According to Denvers KUSA news, the passenger told FBI agents that he put the pipe, wrapped in black tape, in his shoulder bag because it was too light and he wanted to ‘counterweight’ the other bag he was carrying.
Watch the KGW report Police k-9s searched the plane after it landed in Denver, it came back with negative results. The passenger and his companion were interviewed by authorities.
The FBI did not reveal the identity of the Eugene man and said the man had been allowed to continue his trip to France.
