Hey, I’ll have you know I *single-handedly* turned Rita away from the largest population center she might have hit!

I think you had a “little” help. She was aimed at us for a while. :)

After you brought it up I asked the question in other forums, and so far the consensus is it will be the first in recorded history.

LOL, it was simply my *presence* that turned it away from Houston. None of the Houston ‘canes have ever hit when I lived here, lo these many times and many years.

Now, TS’s are a different story.

Thanks, I’ll look again - it looked dead-on to me when I checked in here.

I hate to hear that. I don’t want to get hit by a hurricane, but those folks in that part of the world don’t stand a chance. I’ll pray for them.

They truly don’t. It’s pathetic how absolutely poor most of the folks are in those countries. The shacks they live in...unbelievale. James Robison has gone in is building over 300 homes and drilling wells for these people.

Man, I've been staring at UHMET (refreshes every 5 minutes) for about 12 hours now and my 'ruler' track shows it going straight to the Y-Pen unless a good W turn manifests.

Earlier I decided to open my heart and mind up to the GFDL (NHC's and Lyons' favorite model) but so far it just ain't panning out.

At least, we’ve got tomorrow off and we can watch Felix.

The problem I had with the GFDL was that it went from extreme east to west. Yeah, it caught up with Dean and narrowed in but most of the other models were already there. It just seemed all over the board to me.

new RECON 132 kt SE quad, 931.5 mb pressure.

(NE QUAD will have the max winds....132 kts at flight level is about 135-140 surface)

Even so, that’s 174MPH ... which surface is 90%, so 157mph NWquad, give back 20% for the dirty side, gives us 188mph NEquad surface.

No, no, no: 147kts surface x 1.15 to get MPH = 169mph, but that’s in the NW quad so if we add 10% for NEquad, we get 185mph surface.

Insert a toothpick until it comes out clean :)

At any rate, the eye is now ~12 miles across.
