COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A Colorado Springs elementary school is banning the game of tag on its playground -- after some children complained that they'd been chased or harassed against their will.
Assistant Principal Cindy Fesgen of the Discovery Canyon Campus school said running games will be allowed, as long as students don't chase each other.
Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban, but most parents and children didn't object.
Two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in 2005 in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. Officials at Evans and Meridian Ranch elementaries say that encouraged more students to play games, and helped reduce playground squabbles.
Colorado Springs schools are not alone. Schools in Cheyenne, Wyo., Spokane, Wash., and Attleboro, Mass., have banned tag at recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school not only banned tagged, but outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.
Well, I guess dodge ball is out - too competitive and violent.
Morbidly obese games such as click the remote and fluff the pillow will be substituted.
Send them to school wrapped in bubble wrap and bolt them to the floor as soon as they get there. Darn kids, always doing childish things...
And people wonder why kids are so fat today.
“running games will be allowed, as long as students don’t chase each other.”
Racing with a pair of scissors in your hand is always a fun competition. Especially when it is an obstacle race.
Kickball would be out too.
Love your tagline!
I think we are already there, just waiting for someone to turn out the lights.
A typical spineless school administrator who can’t investigate a specific incident and determine if anything inappropriate was done by specific kids. Just ban the fun for all, play it super safe and cover your rear end.
The professional educator class in government schools today seem bent on trying to make every student some sort of effete pansy. In the long run, it's a terrible idea. It is counter to human nature and natural competitiveness.
Just wait until Junior gets out in the real world.
Maybe suburban kids are being forced by the State to share the playground with the kids of illegal aliens who are just honing their later life skills.
What do they want young boys to do; play hopscotch or jump rope with the girls. School administrators and parents trying to wussify young boys.
We didn’t have play balls in Detroit 35 years ago. We used bricks.
Looks like the school invented a new game “fag”
What a bunch of whining sissies
TAG!!! You’re an idiot!!!!
