Senator Craig Blames Idaho Paper for His Legal and Political Problems
Editor and Publisher ^ | August 28, 2007 | E&P Staff

NEW YORK In a statement to the press late this afternoon, Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho blamed the Idaho Statesman of Boise for his legal and political troubles stemming from his arrest in a sex-related matter at an airport men's room in Minnesota in June.

He denounced the longstanding probes by the Statesman -- he called it a "witch hunt" -- for inspiring him to plead guilty to the offense even though he said he was actually innocent. He said he had been "viciously harassed" by the newspaper. "I am not gay," he said twice. "I love my wife."

The Statesman had looked into allegations about Craig but did not run a lengthy report until today -- the day after his arrest in June became public. But Craig pointed to today's story, and suggested that the paper's probes and the "rumors" they produced had caused him to want to put the matter behind him -- so he pleaded guilty to the men's room charge and told no one about it. "In June, I overreacted and made a poor decision," he said.

Craig also said he would not step down as senator and still planned to serve his state in Washington, and walked away without answering questions from the media...."

Oh, wait a minute. I thought you meant Dirty Back Road in #61, as answered in #100, but your question goes to #57, Private Idaho, in which case I dunno.

He's outa here..For lying, and for thinking he could take us for fools.

And for making himself susceptible to blackmail, and for handing the Dems/MSM a perfect "October Surprise" issue.

there is something to this vindictive newspaper stuff...

we had our supposed gay mayor spied on and tricked into online sex chat with a guy set up by the newspaper here locally...(Spokane,wa).....

there were no criminal charges....he admitted he used his work computer to go to these online sites....but there were no charges....

still, he fought to the end against the machine, and he was narrowly beaten at election time...

he has since died, he had pancreatic cancer for a couple of years....

question never answered: how many city/county/state employees use their work computers for similar stuff, yet were never under a 2 year witch hunt....I'll bet many.....

he was also accused of hiring young men and sort of wink-wink promotions....

to which I say..How many young women have for centuries been wink-winked employed as special favors to some politician?

so the witch hunt that Craig speaks about probably is true....

though I got to say I am sick and tired of these people with these leanings who don't have the common sense not to be carrying on in public...

A place where I used to work (about 16-17 years ago — there were hundreds, possibly more than 1K employees at the site) had at least one deaf employee.

One day, there was no toilet paper in one of the stalls. One of the employees didn’t realize this, and when it came time to wipe he asked the employee in the next stall to hand him some toilet paper, and put his hand under the stall to receive it.

It turned out the employee in the next stall was deaf, and didn’t understand what was going on. One of my coworkers suggested that the deaf fellow probably thought the guy asking for toilet paper was gay. No discussion was made of any foot motions though.

But yes, I was surprised it was considered a crime.

The Idaho Witch Hunt does not explain the Minnesota arrest.

Coming up next: Craig on Oprah blubbering that he is free, free at last of the oppression of homophobic Republicanism.

Larry Craig is known as someone with the Blackmail files. There is a rumor among current republican politicians that he will go “scorched earth” with revelations. Craig has seen it all since 1982. This guy may “out” all of the other republicans skeletons. Again, the conjecture is that this is why the other republican leaders are not going after him. Also, he was able to keep it quiet (like Clinton did) for some time.

I hope he does out people like him. Supposedly there are four more scandals. My sources are spoken words from current republican politicians speculating about unconfirmed rumors.

This could help clean out our party all at once if he goes down swinging -so to speak.

I/m %1000 with you my friend. Time for a New Boston Tea Party type action . Time to clean all of them out of our house. It should be a crime for a politician to make money off of his position ( that’s what they are mainly concerned about ) No family members can be hired for any position and ONE term and you’re gone.

"When I saw the picture of the cop who arrested Craig. I couldn’t help but wonder if he really had to act the part of a gay man."

The cop looks very young. Vice jobs like posing as a hooker in a sting, or a gay man in some can waiting for somebody to come along and hit on you, is usually assigned to the lowest officers on the totem pole. They are not recognizable like someone who has been on the force and been around, that criminals have perhaps had dealings with in the past, and will beat feet if they see that person because they know it's a set-up.

Have these 1982 Craig denials hit FR yet? I’m sure it has to have, but there are so many threads that I don’t know.

I’m sure *they* have to have. I added another video after typing that and neglected to correct the second sentence.

I am sorry. He was already found guilty in a court of law (by himself).

I have not see these, thanks. Notice how aggressive he was in denial on these compared to how he hoped this latest incident would not become public.

I can't believe you can post all of that with a straight face.

That's right up there with "I did not have sex with that woman," only nowhere near as pithy.

For his lapse in judgement alone,

Yes and not just lapse. I mean, if he thinks anyone bought any of his statements at the press conference yesterday, he has no judgment whatsoever.

His greatest error in judgement was being an Idaho Republican instead of a Mass. Dem - then he could have ran a Basement Boy Brothel and still be a hero.

All the same, I wish I had a Morning Zoo radio program, where I’d play a specially altered version of Tony Orland’s “Knock Three Times!” ;-)
