Statement of Senator Craig:

BOISE, ID - Idaho Senator Larry Craig made the following statement in response to the Roll Call story this afternoon:

"At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct.

"I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."

It doesn’t look good. I’d never plead guilty to a crime I didn’t commit.

” I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously.”

Yeah, that’s why you were busted!

According to the earlier thread...

Senator Craig Arrested, Pleads Guilty Following Incident in Airport Restroom

Craig’s arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.

So for two months he didn't have a lawyer? In a town not in Idaho?

He’s a queer... It was clear that somebody had SOMETHING on him, by the way he has been disregarding his constituents and voting with the dems... I’m speaking specifically of his immigration vote.

Hhhmmm..

After reading the account as written by the arresting officer- it’s not looking too good for Craig.

Why would an innocent man plead guilty?

Even if what he says is TRUE- it shows extraordinary lack of clear thinking and judgment to plead guilty if in fact he’s innocent.

What a mess.

I don’t believe a word of it. He got caught and pled guilty. Now he’s trying to cover that fact over for political expediency. I would say, “Stuff it, Larry”, but he’d probably like that idea.

Looks like Hildabeast and her minions have pretty good info on people. The ‘pubs will be lucky to have 40 seats in the Senate after 2008.

I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct.

Near as I can tell from the story the most improper thing he actually did was to make contact with the foot of the undercover officer with his own between the stalls. That isn't illegal...but it isn't exactly innocent either.

The GOP needs to clean it’s house of perverts and sodomites.

Oh, please. He got caught. He pled to a courtesy, non-descript charge in the hopes that it would stay quiet and go away. It didn’t. It is what it is, and he can’t spin his way out of it at this point.

The man is a round-mouth.

I agree. This looks very bad, indeed. He can use all the excuses that he wants, but I doubt that he will convince many that he was “innocent.” I hope that he does the right thing for the GOP and decides not to run again for the senate. He is political toast. Unlike the Dems, Republicans care about sexual ethics.

Craig is not stupid. Expeditious? Expeditious?? The only thing he expedited was his eminent exit from the senate. And the self destruction of the republican reelection effort.

These are the long knives. The Republicans need to pull out the long knives and do some exposes' on some of the democrats' sordid misbehavior.

“Even if what he says is TRUE- it shows extraordinary lack of clear thinking and judgment to plead guilty if in fact he’s innocent.”

Absolutely. I don’t care if someone is gay, I care if they are a U S congressman and committing crimes, especially those they can be blackmailed to the denigration of our interests. At least he wasn’t text-messaging porn from the congress floor like that fellow from Florida!

And to top it off he pleads “guilty” when his is not...and didn’t see a lawyer? A person of his stature?

That seems too wild to believe, but there is a hubris to him evident in this very story. When he whipped out his senate card to the leo and said “What do you think about that?”

The reason I had any interest in this guy at all is I saw a snobby, dismissive attitude in him on his open borders position.
