The good news for U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter is that he should get plenty of exposure during the Texas Republican Straw Poll during the Labor Day weekend.
The bad news is that on Wednesday afternoon, only one newspaper reporter and one TV news crew showed up for his news conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center.

It’s a shame that one has to have a gazillion dollars and high name recognition, or, be a woman or a minority to even get a chance to run for office in the 21st Century.
Duncan Hunter would be a tremendous asset to this nation and the world as POTUS. But, it will never happen.
Shame on all our houses.

“Well, there’s also this problem: Hunter’s campaign didn’t even *notify* the media that he was going to be available.
That’s not good. And they don’t like that at all.
From the article:
He was courteous when members of Gaylord security staff showed up and mentioned that they had learned about Hunter’s news conference on the Internet. Politely but firmly, they told him that they expected to be notified of future events.”
That’s a shame. I stated a few months ago that he needed to come to Texas and try to woo the party leaders so that he could unlock the huge money here and get a big state behind him. Looks like his campaign is running half ass. Either that or Granger and the others don’t want anything to do with him.

"Hunter...has two bedrock issues: support for the military (he's an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and has a son serving in Iraq) and opposition to illegal immigration." The article doesn't mention Hunter's Pro-Fair Trade policy. In a way his stand against illegal immigration can be considered part of his Fair Trade policy. That and his consistent Pro-Family positions are what distinguish him from the rest of the field. Being pro-military and anti-illegal immigration doesn't make one stand-out among Republicans.
Apparently his campaign may not be emphasizing these points in their press releases to the media.

He's had a number of failures to effectively get the word out on his appearances. Not a strong indication of executive effectiveness.

Hunter does stand out on illegal immigration, because he has been the most effective politician on borders - even more effective than Tancredo (nothing against Tancredo).
It was Hunter’s bill for a 854 mi. fence that was passed into law, and Hunter had a fence built at the San Diego border.
But yes, Hunter is the only politician who comes out for Fair Trade. Romney actually talks about having a partnership with Red China (yikes).

1. Right to Life Amendment:
I would amend the U.S. Constitution and provide blanket protection to all unborn children from the moment of conception by prohibiting any state or federal law that denies the personhood of the unborn. Likewise, I have also introduced the Right to Life Act, which would legally define personhood as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn without utilizing a constitutional amendment.”

AND MUCH, MUCH MORE PRO-FAMILY stuff, but I have to go now. :)
