Extremely dangerous Hurricane Dean is moving west-northwest through the Caribbean Sea. The current NHC forecast track indicates Dean's powerful center core will pass just south of the southwestern peninsula of Haiti, and should skirt Jamaica's southern shoreline. The storm maintained strong Category 4 wind status through the night during an eyewall replacement cycle. However, the minimum pressure supports Category 5, and additional strengthening of winds is likely.
Tourists in Jamaica crowded airports Saturday to leave the island nation. Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller addressed the Jamaican people, asking that everyone put aside their political differences and work together in advance of the imminent storm preceding Jamaica's general election scheduled for August 27. PM Miller announced that the Jamaican power grid and water would likely be shut down early Sunday morning in advance of the storm, and strongly urged citizens to seek shelter.
The United States and Barbados have pledged hurricane relief supplies and support to Jamaica as needed. No word yet from the United Nations...

My post probably didn’t make sense... I meant when they aren’t live from Jamaica, Fox has unusually large lettering on the screen. Then I see it’s Geraldo the new weather guy and the extra drama makes sense.
do you see the huge font on Fox right now? Oh, of course, its drama king Geraldo

"No Problem Mon!""Don't worry, be happy..."
Almost got lost at sea on my rented wind-surfer, however...
LOL,,,I got it...;0)
The FOX live shot from Kingston at 5:10 looked like the peak. Very dark with heavy sheets of horizontal rain and nobody cavorting in the streets. The shot at 5:25 looked like it had let up. Still gusty, but a few cars back out, and not as dark.
I did see that coverage and I wondered why she was not down near ground level. I was in disbelief watching folks walking around, although the winds didn’t appear to be that strong in the footage.
Jamaica news radio just had a phone call from another guy reporting shooting in the neighborhood. You could hear the crowd and the shots in the background. Still sounds pretty isolated, though.
It irritates me to no end to continue to hear about how Bush didn’t do this or didn’t do that. It wasn’t before and it should not be now, the feds job to babysit.
Yes, I know. I was so upset, I didn't say what I really meant. Of we course will give aid and comfort...even for a glancing blow.
Shooting reported in Grenwich town, (sp), Mt. View, and Craigstown areas. Apparently these are areas with large numbers of ‘disaffected youth’. Unlike the US media, the Kingstown announcers are chewing out the miscreants.
It’s odd - I almost would rather this storm just track through the channel and hit Texas south of Kingsville (not as a Cat 4-5 though). If it hits Mexico, it is sure to kill many more people. We can handle the storm in the US far better. But - Dean’s gonna go where Dean’s gonna go. This looks like another Mitch in the making, or maybe even Emily.
Spawn of Dean!
Media people on the side of law and order, how novel!
There's something to be said for the rastafarian lifestyle.
Sounds like some good offline stories....
If the Dems win the White House, it will be like hiring a babysitter and coming home to find that they had a party and thrashed your home!
