Hurricane Dean Live Thread [Now Cat 4]
NOAA/NWS ^ | August 16 2007 | NOAA/NWS

Posted on 08/16/2007 4:43:17 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane warnings have been issued for Dominica and St. Lucia as Hurricane Dean races westward into the Caribbean Sea at 24mph. This motion should bring the center of Dean near the Lesser Antilles on Friday. The increased forward speed of the storm has lessened preparation time for Caribbean Islands in its path. Hurricane Dean has favorable conditions to develop into a major hurricane over the next several days.

Since Rove is leaving, we are losing our ability to control hurricanes. That’s not good. Republican areas might get struck

I agree with you. I don’t want anyone to have to deal with Dean but since I’m on the LA side of where you’re at the thought of going through it again just makes my stomach churn.

I don’t even want Mexico to get it though. In some ways it is even harder on them.

Okay, so this is my first hurricane where I have RGV property involved. Always watched them in the past with the fascination and dread that the everybody else in the nation does but it's more personal this time.

It's weird how I started hoping that the darned thing would veer off and impact somebody else. Made me feel bad about myself.

Lots of spiritual stuff attached with watching one of these come bearing down...

(BTW I've been RV traveling all summer. We are currently perched up-state and watching).

Prayers for all in the path of this storm.

American has canceled the Afternoon flight from San Jaun to Dominica, and the 135pm Miami-Santo Domingo trips.

I know that feeling , and I always have a hard time with it.

I hate hurricane season!

Looking at the floater loops of Dean at the NHC site, he seems to be somewhat north of the forecast track, and not just a wobble. Anyone else think so?

At this point, I’ll still call it a wobble, but a very noticable one. There was a southward wobble a bit earlier in that loop.

I remember when, at the last possible moment, Hurricane Charley veered east, sparing Tampa Bay. I was so incredibly relieved, with twinges of guilt. Packed up every bit of my hurricane supplies (including my Freeplay radio, water, food, batteries), mops, brooms, buckets, and hauled them down to Arcadia.

I’ve so much appreciated your pings and the thread NN. We’ve been traveling and I set lots of place markers.

Now just trying to decide whether to drive a bit closer (without going into harms way or adding congestion to a possible evac) or sit and watch a while longer.

I keep thinking of what Jesus told the rich man.

“Sell all your possessions and follow me...”

(Need to not be so attached to possessions, I know. But it’s hard when it’s your life’s investment. Still..)

sigh........

Last year, we drove to Miami to go to the Parrot Jungle.

As we went past Punta Gorda, I broke down in tears. There were still signs of serious damage. All I could think of was ,"there for the grace of God..."

"Just remember that 5 days out a LOT can change."

You're right... we can predict alot of things, but not the final destination of a hurricane!

This is not a wobble, IMHO.

Time to rename that buoy then. I'll suggest SS Minnow.
