The Two Things To Know Before Your City is Nuked By Terrorists
Townhall.com ^ | August 15, 2007 | Douglas MacKinnon

1.) Tragically, horrifyingly, but quite predictably, it’s going to happen. The only question being which American city or cities?

In a recent conversation with a former high level intelligence operative of our government, I raised the possibility of terrorists successfully detonating a nuclear weapon within the United States. His response was sobering in its hopelessness.

First, he stressed how grateful he was that he did not work in Washington, DC, and that his family lived far enough out to survive the coming nuclear blast. When I pressed him as to why he was so sure that Islamic terrorists – with or without the help of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez – would eventually hit DC or another American city with a nuclear weapon, his anger boiled out.

He pointed the finger squarely at our politicians and our politically correct, left-leaning media, who, in his opinion, have “sealed our fate.” He spoke of politicians from both sides of the aisle who consider border security nothing more than a cheap tool to be used for their reelection and enrichment. He despaired about a media that not only gleefully leaks our nation’s most trusted secrets for partisan gain, but then willingly acts as a propaganda tool for the very terrorists intent on our total destruction.

He warned of the hundreds of “loose nukes” floating around our planet. He patiently explained that the former Soviet Union (no matter what they or our government claim), can’t account for a number of their nuclear warheads. That North Korea may well have a few they are willing to sell to terrorists to prop up their totalitarian regime. That Pakistan – already a nuclear power – may soon fall victim to the Islamic extremists trying to overthrow that government. Of an Iran further ahead in their development of nuclear weapons than thought. And last, but not least, he spoke of the thousands of cruise missiles unaccounted for around the world. A number of those missiles being nuclear tipped.

In short, because of what he portrayed as a “betrayal by those sworn to protect us,” a nuclear attack within our nation, in his mind, is “inevitable.”

2.) When said attack comes, you and your family are on your own. Period. My friend stressed that “our government won’t be there to help us. It is broken beyond repair and incapable of assisting those most affected by the blast.”

He talked of critical infrastructures like water, electricity, fuel, banks, our food supply, medical services, police and firefighters, being unavailable for weeks or months. He warned of the blind panic that would follow such an explosion. Of the looting, of neighbor turning on neighbor to take what they don’t have for their own survival. Of our economy suffering an economic loss in the trillions of dollars.

Knowing this, are you prepared? Can you and your family ride out the frighteningly unpredictable weeks or months following the loss of an American city and its inhabitants? If you are not in the city hit, can you survive?

You must ask yourself this question. For, unless there is a miraculous epiphany about to be visited upon our self-centered politicians, then such an attack is certain.

If our politicians and the voters continue to suicidally put party and partisan politics before the welfare and security of our nation, then the terrorists will find the opening to hit us.

Our government and media are failing us. Prepare for the worst.

[.. I've also learned today that your tagline describes everything you say accurately. ..]

True but a hyperbolic situation described withOut hyperbole is merely disinformation.. As Ann Coulter says the Golden Girls that survived 9/11 husbands were made very wealthy.. and turned the experience into socialist political fodder.. As was the United Way funds.. squandered.. Not to speak of various givernment funds.. New York City is a sewer of socialism.. and drain field of corruption.. Hyperbole in NYC is an understatement..

Well, unfortunatly, it won't just be airliners into a building next time around.

I keep thinking of the thousands of tons of drugs smuggled into the U.S. via Mexico every year or two. Can't imagine what else is coming across.

Torching a place you’re about to loot doesn’t make a lot sense. Unless you have asbestos suit and you’re after something that is fire proof.

“Torching a place you’re about to loot doesn’t make a lot sense. Unless you have asbestos suit and you’re after something that is fire proof.”

True, it is a bit of a stretch. But people do like to start fires and often do not make any sense.

Thanks for indulging me.

I might just lob a gasoline bomb on you house and shoot the people inside as they ran out.

You make an excellent point.

You seem to have solidified your candidacy for being the #1 A-hole on this here thread!

I believe that this is uncalled for. I think wideawake is further proof of the old saying 'Denial is not just a river in Egypt'.

I find it interesting how many FReepers will dismiss this as nonsense. I belive that within the next 50 years it will happen. I plan on having everything that I will need in order to ride it out if I can. I really don’t see a defense agaisnt it.

“I’ll buy the inevitable nuclear/biological attack. But the panic and financial crash? Violence of neighbor-on-neighbor outside the affected area? No government services for months? Baloney.”

If you don’t think it will get ugly in an urban environment, you are kidding yourself.

As for a financial crash, on that end, I can’t say. But I certainly couldn’t rule it out. In fact it would be more likely than not.

US cities being hit with nuclear weapons? A nightmare.

Take some firebrand USA haters and some cash, you never know what they will come up with.

This reminded me of watching "Lockdown" on National Geographic channel. I was amazed at how the prisoners were able to make weapons. One guy even made a low power microwave oven out of a radio and a shoe box.

I’m sorry but you are confusing situations in a poor way. I was in NYC the last time there was a blackout. Pretty orderly and low key.

If there is a nuclear bomb or dirty bomb, every single person will feel at risk, not just those in the vicinity of two buildings in one neighborhood.

That will change the psychology of people walking over the 59th St. Bridge and everyone else for that matter.

On what basis do you claim the author is clueless? How many major Federal officials have we heard say exactly what this writer postulates?

Your logic escapes me.

Not really; unless the terrs manage to get their hands on a strategic city busting nuke the damage will be limited to a 4-5 miles radius. Target selection and shot placement is everything when using tiny nukes.

Lucky for me the bad guys could bust a 25 Mt nuke over Dallas and my biggest worry would be broken glass.

“Why wouldn’t we do better than the war-scarred Japanese?
Of course we would.”

I’d like to believe that, and maybe Americans would rise to the occasion, but in the past two generations (roughly since implementation of LBJ’s ‘Great Society’) we have birthed a government-dependent society.

On the other hand, I really wouldn’t have to worry about it much, I live right outside of DC.
