Best bet is shabby construction in the first place and a lot of rake off by the contractors.

Buy a clue, I have been in this business for 34 years and have only seen Contractors who value their reputation and build the best they can, if the design is questionable they speak up and as for the “rake-off” what does that mean?

I have an idea, you go start a heavy construction company, put your heart and soul into it, build an organization of talented people to bid and manage the work, pledge everything you own to finance this enterprise and then you explain to me how you will risk it all to build something not meeting the plans and specifications you contracted for...what are you going to gain?

Don’t give me the feather bedding union workmen bullshit, who do you think builds our roads, bridges, tunnels and sewers...elves.

That is a low, sleazy slam. How do you think ythe thing stood 40 years if it was a bad construction job. Do you think all of us contractors are just scumbags who only rip people of? That's a really ignorant view. If it were true, wouldn't more of us be in jail?

How about wising up instead of making spurious, ignorant accusations.

Oh, and WTF is rake-off? I’ve been in construction my whole life and never once heard that term.
