Romney: Hezbollah role model for U.S. Urges emulating projects used by group against Israel
World Net Daily ^ | 8-2-07 | Aaron Klein

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney has cited the social welfare network of the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group as a role model the U.S. should copy to help promote "goodness" and "freedom" around the world.

Sections of Hezbollah's social welfare network, including schools and camps, are routinely used by the terror group to indoctrinate students in anti-Israel propaganda, instruct in military tactics and promote Shiite Islamic beliefs, including the waging of a final, apocalyptic world battle against "evil."

The former Massachusetts governor this weekend was asked during a campaign stop in Iowa whether he would renew President Bush's $50 million campaign to combat AIDS in Africa.

The rip off Mickey Mouse was Al Aqsa/Hamas, not Hezbollah.

I happen to agree with what he is talking about here. If we are ever going to make friends with people in lower cultures then we have to win the hearts and minds and we have to look at what Hezbollah and other groups are doing since they are rather successful, no?

I will support whomever is going to stop the Dems from taking the WH. I will also look for the best candidates I can find for Congress and the Senate. I am not going to find the perfect candidate but even Lowest Common Denominator Rudy would be better than Hillary provided we had a good conservative group in the House and Senate to keep him on the right track.

And America hasn’t built a school in say, Afghanistan? I thought this was the First Lady’s pet project and it was well covered by the press. Where has Romney been hiding to have missed this? He hasn’t come out from under the bed since her 2005 visit with Karzai? Amazing!

Cuba says the same thing. Fidel sent doctors to Angola in the 70’s and he’s still claiming that he’s a humanitarian.
You can’t be serious...Hitler did it too, in Austria and Hungary.

Hamas. Hezbollah. Tomato. Tomatoe.
Face it, Mitt stepped in it big time.

Why is it misleading? Here’s the actual quote from Romney:

In remarks caught on camera by C-SPAN, Romney stated, “Did you notice in Lebanon what Hezbollah did? Lebanon became a democracy some time ago, and while their government was getting under way, Hezbollah went into southern Lebanon and provided health clinics to some of the people there, and schools.

“And they (Hezbollah) built their support there by having done so. That kind of diplomacy is something that would help America become stronger around the world and help people understand that our interest is an interest towards modernity and goodness and freedom for all people in the world. And so, I want to see America carry out that kind of health diplomacy.”

This article by Aaron Klien includes two quotes by Mitt Romney and many quotes by someone other than Romney listing the evils of Hezbollah. This is a confusing article written to link Romney's quotes with others to make Romney sound as if he is a staunch supporter of Islamic terrorism. It's an obvious attempt to assassinate Romney.

The sychopants following Mitts opponents are licking drool in overtime with this article.

LOL...do some of you (Romney suporters) consider Sen. Patty “OBL was great because he built day care centers” Murray to be a foreign policy genius? /sarc

I guess this is why Romney didn’t want to capture OBL - Hezbollah and Hamas would be unhappy and might not want to share their social engineering skills with Mitt /mega sarc

Mitt Romney has no illusions about the terrorist core of Hezbollah. Hezbollah's image is improved by their non-terrorist initiatives, that is a fact, and he's referring only to those activities in this narrow context.

In a full statement for release, no doubt the candidate should unequivocally label Hezbollah as terrorist.

“He was talking about infrastructure, schools and hospitals, sillies.”

People running for President of the United States do not make those types of comparison errors. He issues a clarification of some kind, or he’s toast on that one statement. You can bank on that.

It's misleading because Romney is not suggesting we use projects "Against Israel."

His point is that we should engage in public works projects in order to gain the sympathy of certain populations that might otherwise be hostile to us. If it worked for Hezbollah, and it could work for us.

He's not suggesting that we emulate Hezbollah's actions against Israel, which is what the headline implies.

I understand Mitt's point. Hezbolla endeared themselves to Lebanon's people, by giving them humanitarian aid like schools and health care, just as the U.S. soldiers in Iraq have endeared themselves to many Iraqi's by rebuilding their infrastructure, schools and by giving them medical care and other kinds of help. Romney sees this kind of effort, as a way to build and establish good relations with such countries.

Mitt is obviously NOT referring to the indoctrination programs implemented by Hezbolla along with their humanitarian aid, as this twisted article would lead people to believe.

The United States is already extending humanitarian aid all over the world. Many people feel our government has OVEREXTENDED itself, in this regard on the taxpayers dime, (I am one of them) and won't support more such measures.

This is NOT a cornerstone of any of Romney's policy proposals, and hardly disqualifies him from the presidency. Too many conservatives are far too quick to point the finger and pile on.

He did mention Hezbollah specifically.

And, is it really that conservative to spread big government programs all over the world? With your tax money?
