Romney: Hezbollah role model for U.S. Urges emulating projects used by group against Israel
World Net Daily ^ | 8-2-07 | Aaron Klein

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney has cited the social welfare network of the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group as a role model the U.S. should copy to help promote "goodness" and "freedom" around the world.

Sections of Hezbollah's social welfare network, including schools and camps, are routinely used by the terror group to indoctrinate students in anti-Israel propaganda, instruct in military tactics and promote Shiite Islamic beliefs, including the waging of a final, apocalyptic world battle against "evil."

The former Massachusetts governor this weekend was asked during a campaign stop in Iowa whether he would renew President Bush's $50 million campaign to combat AIDS in Africa.

Instead of asking these freaks whether or not they'd use nukes against our enemies, maybe we should ask them if they'd ok the use of nukes against the US.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm voting for "None of the above"

Romney was talking about the Hearts and Minds type of diplomacy. You can debate the merits of that approach but this article from World Nut Daily was the sort of hit job we see from the liberal media.

Oh Mitt, say it ain’t so!

>>In remarks caught on camera by C-SPAN, Romney stated, “Did you notice in Lebanon what Hezbollah did? Lebanon became a democracy some time ago, and while their government was getting under way, Hezbollah went into southern Lebanon and provided health clinics to some of the people there, and schools.

“And they (Hezbollah) built their support there by having done so. That kind of diplomacy is something that would help America become stronger around the world and help people understand that our interest is an interest towards modernity and goodness and freedom for all people in the world. And so, I want to see America carry out that kind of health diplomacy.”<<

I knew this sounded familiar!

Sections of the III Reich social welfare network, including schools and camps, are routinely used by the Party Members to indoctrinate students in anti-Joo propaganda, instruct in military tactics and promote National Socialist beliefs, including the waging of a final, apocalyptic world battle against “Bolsheviks.” OK I just replaced a couple of words, but its what it sounds like.

Hezbollah managed to secure a base of support in what they did. You are completely missing the point here in what Romney said.

As a PoliSci major, I learned that the Welfare State (Wohlfahrtsstaat) is a sub-type of the Police State (Polizeistaat). Using government to buy support of the mob is not a new idea, it goes back at least as far as Rome, it was called Caesarism. It’s not a model that has staying power and the US has been terrible at buying support. We’re then not willing to allow our guys to use the brutality necessary to stay in power, see South Vietnam and the Shah.

Hey, I understand what he was trying to say and I am one of Mitt's biggest fans --- but nobody is perfect. This was a bad example..... a gaffe. The first one he's made, I think.

----> He's realized the error of his ways and has already corrected the statement:

Mitt Romney's campaign said Hezbollah was not a proper model for his vision of U.S. diplomacy, addressing a controversy arising from his earlier remarks.

"Governor Romney believes that bloodthirsty terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas have smothered the progress of the people and nations where they have built their networks, Lebanon serving as an example," spokesman Kevin Madden said. "These terror organizations cannot and should not be allowed to gain an advantage with the citizenry in Muslim nations just because they mask their terror agenda with an offering of some vital services."

In other words, they had a good idea which they've used for evil and manipulation rather than good.

They have built a base of influence by winning hearts and minds and it can be an effective tool. Good thing AQ has not figured that out or things in Iraq could be a lot worse. From the reactions out there on this comment it seems that people are indulging in political correctness instead of substance.

If you're learning to tie your shoes, do you look to Hitler for your example? NO.

If you're looking to win people over through charity, do you look to Hezbollah as your role model? NO.

For a smooth-talking snake oil salesman, Romney sure talks like an idiot a lot.

Next up: Mitt’s going to endorse Sen. Patty Murray’s idea of “building day care centers like Osama bin Laden does”.

Yes, one could in total morality. Shoelaces are not akin to genocide.

C’mon now, even Mitt’s camp is saying it was wrong. I’m not kneejerking because I am firmly on Hunter’s side, and that will not change. That said, I wish Mitt no harm and think he is doing a fine job of adding to the debate. This notion that it’s Rudy, and only Rudy is absurd and frankly, irritating as hell. Fred, Mitt, Mike Huckabee, the more the merrier! When the convention rolls around, we are going to have tons of ideas and plans. So, it’s not a dig at Mitt, this “Hezbollah” BS is simply beyond the beyonds.
Does he really think like this?

Did you even watch the martyrdom of FARFOUR?

Won't you pray for my salvation too?
