BENTONVILLE -- The father of a 17-year-old girl found his daughter's boyfriend hiding inside her bedroom closet Tuesday, beat him bloody with a pool stick, then left the room to fetch a gun. The daughter and boyfriend blocked the door with a dresser, so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.
George David Reed, 48, posted a $150,000 bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon as Michael Austin Guzman, 19, underwent surgery to treat a bullet lodged in his spinal cord.
Three of Guzman's vertebrae are fractured and doctors don't expect him to regain feeling or mobility below his waist, according to a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday after Reed's bond hearing. He was still in surgery Wednesday evening in Joplin's Freeman Health System, according to an intensive care nurse.
Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan set the bond Wednesday based on a request from Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Wilkinson. Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act, the most serious type of felony aside from capital murder, punishable by up to life in prison. He was also arrested on a charge of felony first-degree battery.
Defense attorney W.H. Taylor, who spent the morning consulting with his client at the jail, did not object to the bond. Reed is to be arraigned Sept. 10 before Circuit Judge David Clinger.
Taylor said that Reed has three children and lives with his wife, Sharon, at 13569 Vaughn Road near Highfill. Reed has been in Northwest Arkansas since 1962, owns a farm and rental properties, and has operated a moving and storage business since 1983.

They just didn’t get caught.
________
You are spot on, but not one of them has the guts to come out and admit it openly on this thread.
Cowards.
Not that I have a lot of sympathy for the kid he shot.
_________
As others have noted, there but for the grace of God go I.
How about you?
The man finds an invader in his home, stalking and molesting his daughter. When he confronts the invader, he is kicked in the shins. Then the invader blocks the door to his daughters room with a dresser.
___________
Oh please. Read the article. There was no invader, there was no stalking and there was no molesting.
3 strikes and you’re out.
Batter up!
I’ll send you an appointment.
He’s lucky he didn’t hit his daughter.
I just don’t understand why any normal father should be any more obsessed with his daughter’s sex life as opposed to his son’s. The only thing that occurs to me is that she is a reflection of her mother and somehow he has displaced sexual yearnings for his mate onto his child. At any rate such an obsession is sick in my opinion.
“Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act”
That is a BS charge.
How do you know that she would not have been punished after the guy was removed from the house? We have no clue that she would have gotten away from being punished. I bet she would have gotten punished had things happened as they did.
Well, there is being “beat bloody” and there is being beat bloody. Seeing as he was in a closet when it happened, I bet he was “beat bloody” which means he was beat with the cue stick (but not with the same force as if he would have in the open) and probably got a bloody nose or some cuts, which would explain his being able to get up and help move the dresser before dad got back with the gun.
I'll buy that.
Oops. Nope, Reed started the beating, not the kid:
Her dad came inside asking, "Where is he?" Morgan tried to pretend nothing was unusual, but eventually pointed to the closet, court documents state.
Reed opened the door to find Guzman sitting with his back to the wall. Reed began beating Guzman in the face with the pool stick. Morgan said Guzman kept saying, "Stop, I'll leave," but her dad wouldn't stop even though Guzman was bleeding, she told police.
Reed left the bedroom, the teenagers closed the door and began pulling Morgan's dresser in front of it. Someone then fired four shots through the bedroom door. After the first shot, Guzman turned away from the door and was struck in the back with a bullet. He immediately couldn't feel or move his legs, Morgan told police.
This dad is toast. The kid was cornered, unarmed and offering to retreat but wasn't allowed to. The dad is getting it up the keester for the rest of his life. Not that he didn't have reason to be angry, but it's over for him.
The age of consent in Arkansas is 16. There's not a damn thing anyone can do to him or her - save for kicking her out of the house.
No, it's not. See post 147 (IIRC).
The burden of proof remains with the prosecution.
I just dont understand why any normal father should be any more obsessed with his daughters sex life as opposed to his sons.
_______
Having both a son and daughters, it’s not pretty to say, but girls have the babies, boys don’t.
Standard legal procedure is that the father is presumed innocent and a case against him must be proven in court. Its not defending him to point that out and to say we need to wait to hear the evidence before coming to conclusions. Absolutely no proof of any guilt on his part has been offered other than the untested assertions of the prosecution.
The only clearly proven items here was Guzman was in the home against the father's wishes, Guzman is paralyzed from an apparent gun shot from the father, and the father voluntarily surrendered to police.
The kid was cornered, unarmed and offering to retreat but wasn't allowed to.
Not according to the above statement from the dad.
The assertions concerning Guzman's innocence here very much remain to be prooven in court.
So all the jokes guys tell about their daughters dating (as in post #12 here) are reflections of some kind of incestuous desire??? You don’t have daughters, I gather.
Jokes are one thing, beating someone almost to death with a pool cue and blindly shooting through a closed door when the daughter was willing and in no imminent danger is WAY over the edge of normal parental interest.
