BENTONVILLE -- The father of a 17-year-old girl found his daughter's boyfriend hiding inside her bedroom closet Tuesday, beat him bloody with a pool stick, then left the room to fetch a gun. The daughter and boyfriend blocked the door with a dresser, so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.
George David Reed, 48, posted a $150,000 bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon as Michael Austin Guzman, 19, underwent surgery to treat a bullet lodged in his spinal cord.
Three of Guzman's vertebrae are fractured and doctors don't expect him to regain feeling or mobility below his waist, according to a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday after Reed's bond hearing. He was still in surgery Wednesday evening in Joplin's Freeman Health System, according to an intensive care nurse.
Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan set the bond Wednesday based on a request from Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Wilkinson. Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act, the most serious type of felony aside from capital murder, punishable by up to life in prison. He was also arrested on a charge of felony first-degree battery.
Defense attorney W.H. Taylor, who spent the morning consulting with his client at the jail, did not object to the bond. Reed is to be arraigned Sept. 10 before Circuit Judge David Clinger.
Taylor said that Reed has three children and lives with his wife, Sharon, at 13569 Vaughn Road near Highfill. Reed has been in Northwest Arkansas since 1962, owns a farm and rental properties, and has operated a moving and storage business since 1983.

They just didn't get caught.
Ouch @ the application
I've never liked worrying. That is ONE reason I own firearms.
My take on this story is that the entire household was (probably) pretty dammed dysfunctional and that makes another decrease in sources of worry for me. My daughter seems to have her head screwed on pretty straight at this point, which is remarkable taking into account her parents. ;-)
I totally agree. I thought that terrorism had to have some sort of political component.
Ostrich! LOL.
Glad to hear you have that last perfect kids because of YOUR doing!
And you’ll be the one with the biggest shock if something happens...
Yep, kids experiment with tobacco, alcohol, dope, sex and other things. Not all, nor with all.
But those experimentations are normal behavior.
There appear to be vicious ,would-be murderers hiding among us Freepers; they sound like the honor killing condemned elsewhere.Such fathers that feel their daughters are their property to be guarded like a prize filly until daddy arranges a suitable mating. The passion is all about the fathers’ sense of possession-”you deserve to die because you sullied MY daughter”;I wonder how many of these posters boasting of their readiness to kill were virgins on their wedding day?
I don’t know what kind of regrets you have over your behavior as a young person, but it shows.
There are “good girls” and “good guys” out there and it’s not by accident.
Laugh all you like and call me naive. I know what I’m doing and how I’m raising my kids. It’s too bad you have such a cynical view of our society and human nature.
No argument here. Any of the firearms instructors/advisors I've ever had would blow a gasket at the suggestion of firing blind into an area where "friendlies" are.
I hope no one comes away with the idea I think this guy is some kind of hero; I don't think that at all -- but I also don't think he should do a life stretch for this. He should have handled it a heck of a lot better, I'd like to think I would, but I don't think I could vote guilty if I were on the jury, unless the charge was reckless endangerment or if it came out that he told some one before he ever got the the house something like "If her boyfriend is there, I'm gonna kill the sumb!+ch..." -- that's a whole different kettle of fish.
Realizing what normal behavior is ain’t cynical.
And although there is only one first time for everything, I’m not sure that smoking a cigarette or joint, drinking a beer, or losing viriginity before marriage scars one for life or not doing any of those things really makes one any better in anything.
But it does give the holier than thou types something to boast about.
Shooting through the door, he could have just as easily plugged his daughter an accidental honor killing.
LOL. Nice to have the voice of experience speaking here. :-)
To quote Dave Ramsey, "Experience is what lets you look at a situation, and see what STUPID looks like.
Another good quote here is,
Some people can learn by reading. Others can learn by watching. But there are always a few that just have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.

“...then decided to go get a different deadly weapon...”
Well obviously the first one didn’t work well enough...
I may have taken a bit of literary license, but believe me, the burden of proof has shifted... and not in daddyos’s favor.
I thought the same thing.
The father had already warned this boy NOT to arrive attended. The Father is the home owner, the boy knew this all to well, thus why he hid his car down the road.
In the real world, this kid was trespassing on more than one level. I highly doubt the home ownership had the girls name on it.
Terrorist? Sounds strange.
I don't think he has his head in the sand, and I do believe he knows his daughter better than you can imagine. My sister was the cut of the same cloth. You can suggest otherwise, of course, but you're in no position to know the truth. Truth based on statistics are a poor way to judge in individual cases.
I have been patiently waiting for the parallel to be drawn with sharia honor killing.
Michelle Phillips' Londonistan describes the widespread arranged marriage with associated honor killing as part of the sharia package vis-a-vis the muslim enclaves of Britain's urban centers.
The father owns the daughter and would think nothing of killing her should she defy his will thus bringing dishonor on the family.
Behold Arkanistan.
voir dire would bar you, unless you lied
Ok being a father of a daughter, I would be the type to grant some considerable leeway before judging this man for his actions here. But he lost me at the gunfire. I mean, your DAUGHTER is on the other side of a door, and you’re firing off rounds?! What a nutjob. It’s tragic all the way around, but he’ll get what he deserves by going to jail. Not that I have a lot of sympathy for the kid he shot.
