BENTONVILLE -- The father of a 17-year-old girl found his daughter's boyfriend hiding inside her bedroom closet Tuesday, beat him bloody with a pool stick, then left the room to fetch a gun. The daughter and boyfriend blocked the door with a dresser, so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.
George David Reed, 48, posted a $150,000 bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon as Michael Austin Guzman, 19, underwent surgery to treat a bullet lodged in his spinal cord.
Three of Guzman's vertebrae are fractured and doctors don't expect him to regain feeling or mobility below his waist, according to a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday after Reed's bond hearing. He was still in surgery Wednesday evening in Joplin's Freeman Health System, according to an intensive care nurse.
Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan set the bond Wednesday based on a request from Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Wilkinson. Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act, the most serious type of felony aside from capital murder, punishable by up to life in prison. He was also arrested on a charge of felony first-degree battery.
Defense attorney W.H. Taylor, who spent the morning consulting with his client at the jail, did not object to the bond. Reed is to be arraigned Sept. 10 before Circuit Judge David Clinger.
Taylor said that Reed has three children and lives with his wife, Sharon, at 13569 Vaughn Road near Highfill. Reed has been in Northwest Arkansas since 1962, owns a farm and rental properties, and has operated a moving and storage business since 1983.

That's the real problem here.
How many of you who defend killing for sexual misconduct consider yourselves Christians?
You are all one small step away from justifying honor killings. Unbelievable.
And yes, I raised a daughter to adulthood who is doing very well and I never had to resort to beating or killing her boyfriends. I would be happy to sit on the jury that will help put that miscreant father behind bars for life where he belongs.
Jeez, can't you recognize a little joking?
This is the feminist mindset , girls innocent and pure like the wind driven snow and boys the vicious predatory wolves.
____
As a father of 2 daughters, I would suggest that this is the dad mindset, not the feminist mindset.
Ain't that the truth.
When you are the father of a boy, you only have to worry about what one ---.
When you are the father of a girl, you have to worry about all of them.
Temporary Insanity Plea.
Who wants to be the anti-gun prosecutors will demand no fathers be permitted on the jury?
(he is still stupid, just need to point out the defense)
Yeah, he just wounded the b@$t@rd!!!!
He needs better control of his gun.
But then, in Arkansas, I guess the age of consent is twelve.
This dad is a complete idiot. If I was king I'd shoot him in the back, severing his spinal cord...
Yep, jerks is as jerks does
Maybe then he would know the meaning of overreaction.
Overreaction....hmmmm
No, I do NOT agree with what this man did.
At least it wasn't his nephew he was shooting...
The article says nothing of the sort, telling me you didn't read it. He did not refuse to let him leave. The young man barricaded himself in the room and possibly had even attacked him according to the father's claims. He claims to have shot high and low at the door, not blindly into the room. And then waited patiently for police.
If the bullet holes prove his story, the father will probably be acquitted. Meanwhile, the young man should be charged with statutory rape and tresspassing.
I don't see premeditation here at all.
I am not trying to justify the fathers behavior. I'm saying the article's use of the description, "beat bloody with a cue stick" would appear to be an overstatement. It was probably information provided by the daughter.
Not So. I have an adult daughter, that yes, was a young girl at one time. And had she been assaulted by a male against her will at any age, I would have beaten the crap out of the male or much worse.
When my daughter was 17 she was entirely cognizant of what she was doing at all times. If she had been having consensual sex with a boy that was within 2 years of her age, I'd have been royally pissed because I taught her the folly of such behavior. But to try to murder her and the boy? If you noted, she was behind the door also.
Would you shoot a gun through a closed bedroom door with your daughter on the other side? Answer that.
Especially since his only options for targets now will be armed prison guards and police officers.
Of course he was. It was an attempted American honor killing - the kind we like to pretend only Muslims engage in.
Some excerpts:
The teenagers decided Guzman would come over Tuesday when her parents left. He arrived about 9:30 a.m., parking his teal Toyota Tercell down the street. Morgan drove there to pick him up. They went to the bedroom and "eventually fell asleep," according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Investigator Jeremy Felton of the Benton County Sheriff's Office. Her dad called just before 11 a.m. to ask how things were going, which was unusual, Morgan told police. A few minutes later, she heard her dad pull up in his truck and go into the garage. Guzman climbed into her closet. Her dad came inside asking, "Where is he?" Morgan tried to pretend nothing was unusual, but eventually pointed to the closet, court documents state.
Reed opened the door to find Guzman sitting with his back to the wall. Reed began beating Guzman in the face with the pool stick. Morgan said Guzman kept saying, "Stop, I'll leave," but her dad wouldn't stop even though Guzman was bleeding, she told police.
Reed left the bedroom, the teenagers closed the door and began pulling Morgan's dresser in front of it. Someone then fired four shots through the bedroom door. After the first shot, Guzman turned away from the door and was struck in the back with a bullet. He immediately couldn't feel or move his legs, Morgan told police.
When police arrived, Reed was waiting on the front porch.
In an interview with Felton, Reed said he'd warned Guzman not to come around without a chaperone. He said a friend called that morning to say Guzman's car was parked down the road. Reed called his wife and their youth pastor to say he was going to the house to check it out. Upon arrival, he got a pool stick from the garage to defend himself, court documents state.
When he entered his daughter's bedroom, he saw Morgan adjusting her clothes and the bed messy. He assumed the teenagers had sex. He opened the closet door, yelled for Guzman to get out of the house, and Guzman began kicking him in the legs, he told Felton. He admitted hitting Guzman with the pool stick.
Reed said he went to his bedroom and retrieved a loaded gun from his nightstand. He went to the bedroom and fired "warning shots up high." He then fired shots toward the bottom of the door. He heard Guzman yell he was shot, so he backed away from the door and put the gun back into the nightstand drawer. His wife arrived and told him to wait on the porch for deputies, court documents state.
The age of consent is 17 in Arkansas, so no possible charges apply given the consensual nature of it.
On the other hand, the father must be a complete moron who deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail: not only did he overreact (a beating should have been quite sufficient), but he fired into the room without regard for whom he might injure, the boyfriend or his daughter.
With Daddy going away, the girls family will be a shambles and whatever her future plans may have been, they'll undoubtedly be revised downward. IF he has any assets, he'll surely lose them in the civil lawsuit the boy will file. In trying "protect" his daughter, he's ruined his entire family's life, probably permanently. Way to go, Dad!
Oops, got the names confued. DAD will now only have armed LEOs and prison guards for targets of his violent outbursts.
I guess you haven’t met a lot of women ...
LOL!!!
