Toronto police are investigating after a man was injured by a letter bomb. Police say the man received an envelope at his home in the area of Victoria Park and Lawrence Avenues on the night of Aug. 11. When he opened the package, it exploded, causing injuries to his hands.
An envelope with a petroleum-type odour was found at another Toronto home in the area of Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave. on Aug. 19, but police were called and it was safely detonated. Both packages were bubble-wrapped envelopes, had properly addressed courier receipts, and contained petroleum-type fluid.
Police are warning members of the public to be cautious if they receive unexpected packages or envelopes and to contact police if they are suspicious of the contents. Suspicious envelopes and packages should not be handled or moved.

NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia, Aug. 20 (UPI) — Two Siberian scientists are under criminal investigation for allegedly divulging Russian defense secrets in a book they wrote.
Brothers Igor and Olen Minin were targeted for a section in their book dealing with developments at the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Science’s Institute of Applied Physics, Itar-Tass reported Monday.
The two scientists worked at the applied physics institute before joining the Novosibirsk State Technical University located in Russia’s third largest city.
They aren’t the first Siberian scientists to be accused of trading in state secrets.
Earlier a laboratory chief at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion in Siberia was exonerated of charges he passed classified information about solid rocket fuels to the United States.
