Holy cock-a-doodle-doo. You wouldn't catch me dead on that thing. I'm a white knuckle bridge person as is. I hated living in the Bay Area where we had to take a bridge to get anywhere. God help my husband if we ever got stuck in traffic on one of them. I was pure HELL to be with then.
I'm sooooooo glad to live in Nevada now.

I don’t know. I hope not, but they did say there were pedestrians, bicyclists and construction workers unaccounted for.

Hard to believe a bridge could just collapse like that, but hopefully all the other bridges are safe.I heard about the bridge collapse on my way home from work. I then extended my commute home by about a half hour to avoid crossing the Ship Canal bridge in Seattle. Better safe than sorry.

How high is that bridge over the water, and how deep is the water? Anyone know this?

I'm trying to figure out what makes a person WANT to think everything is a terror plot and will not believe otherwise. Not everything, but in this case we are talking about the catastrophic failure of one of the main US Interstate bridges within a Metropolitan area. That has to be one of the top infrastructure targets within the area. Terrorism or sabotage should be high on the investigators list of possible causes.
To: defconw
Oh no....I hadn’t heard that. What a tragedy. Time to reinspect bridges all over the country.

Nice to hear that you are safe and sound, sweet one!
I have not checked, but have all of our Minnesota Freepers in the Twin Cities been accounted for tonight?

Chertoff hasn't said anything. The only actual quote I can find is this:
There are no indications of a nexus to terrorism at this time. We continue to monitor the situation. State and local officials have the lead in rescue and response efforts, Russ Knocke, a DHS spokesperson,
What's untrue or inappropriate about that statement? At least, if it doesn't come out that they've already received a secret decoder ring message from Osama, saying "Howdayalike them apples"

I didn’t know teens were banned from FR. Since when? I conversed with an 18 year old university student not too long ago.

I don’t think so. From what I heard, the S&R operation is in the river, most likely for them.

The guy has NO CLUE what happened, yet he has such a low opinion of the American public that he feels he must come out with his kneejerk statement about how it isn't terrorism-related.He just wants to let everyone know that he's working tonight... if he wasn't, you'd be bitching that he was silent.
