Standards? What standards. You have got to be kidding me. I post on here from time to time but I find a large number of people to be extremely hateful. Obscene comments that should never be made are made in almost every thread. There are a lot of people that post on Free Republic that are either sick in the head or post disgusting comments because they figure nobody will ever know who they are.
Sorry but Free Republic is full of disgusting comments. The mods may do a good job at keeping trolls out but they should don’t care what a lot of the regular posts say. IF Free Republic was the only view of the Republican party that I ever got then I would think Republicans were the most hate filled group out there.
It isn’t everyone, of course, but there are a large number of people on here that should keep their mouth shut most of the time. That will never happen though.

Okay, same challenge we collectively set for Bore O’Rielly: links. If ‘obscene comments that should never have been made are in almost every thread’, it should be easy to find some. Pony up, show us links to even two comments that fit your description posted within the past day.
Given that any time I’ve seen an obscene comment posted (a rare event), the next time I visited the thread it had been replaced with a “Comment # has been removed by the moderator” notice, and the vast majority of threads I have ever visited have no “Comment # has been removed by the moderator” notices.
Have you perhaps set your account to read only threads in the “Smokey Backroom”? Even there, where the rhetoric gets fairly rough, I can’t recall obscenity.
Of course, perhaps, as some other posters have suggested, you are a leftist troll, and posts that uphold the superiority of capitalism over socialism; that object to any plan to impose state control of health insurance; consider the possibility that natural or cultural variation in human aptitudes and inclinations, rather than invideous discrimination might account for disparities of demographic groups in various professions; or satirize some favorite leftist politician might all strike you as obscene or hate-filled.
I have to agree with you here. FR lets anyone post here. Even people who would post unsubstantiated lies, like:

How many of those threads have obscene comments in them?
And most importantly, how many of those obscene comments did you hit the abuse button on?

FR is a conservative forum.
There is a big difference between the two, nowadays. But you should know that; afterall, you have posted many times yourself - that President Bush should be impeached. That doesn't sound like the Republican Party line; in fact, it sounds like something that Medea Benjamin or DailyKos posters would say.

Well, I don’t really agree with you, but I might be a bit more sympathetic than the rest. There have been plenty of threads where I have felt uncomfortable, as in I disagreed with the tone, with the posts of some against ‘Muslims’ especially and occasionally Blacks/Hispanics. I don’t think this is a result of overt racism or prejudice, but people just get careless and say things that generalizes groups and can be taken as meaning something different then they meant. I would think it would be especially difficult to be a conservative/libertarian Muslim and surf some of these threads; a minority of people do make what could be considered derogatory comments. I realize most of the time they are meant in jest or when people say ‘Muslims’ they are referring to the Muslims mentioned in the story (usually terrorists or their apologists, lol), not all Muslims. Same with Blacks/Hispanics etc...
However, I also think people that are offended have only themselves to blame for being offended; In fact, the degree of double standardness and offendedness that appears to be felt and advocated for by various groups representing minority groups (CAIR, NAACP), sort of mirrors the degree of ridicule/slantedness they are subject to in return. I’m not into censorship and I’m interested in what everybody has to say; within reason. Nothing has been mentioned about the fact that there are plenty of people who have been banned or suspended for posting stories in the wrong place or saying politically extreme things in a poor manner.
So, I think BOR story was clearly a ‘hit piece’, but it does not take away from the fact that there are plenty of people who are pretty ignorant on how they come off, especially to an outsider unaware of the dynamic give and take and joking around that goes on here.
I’m not sure how to ‘fix’ this, or even that it needs fixing. I think this is an awesome site and very well run and policed to the best of peoples’ ability. The best is probably just to police ourselves more and change the culture ever so slightly to the positive.

Is there another parallel dimension of FR someplace? You are not describing the FR with which I am familiar. In fact, you are condemning it. Now I am offended finding your post one of the most despicable and offensive I have read in some time.
Unfortunately, sometimes we have posts that are filled with lies by people with their heads you know where and who occasionally come here to post.
Post 55 is an example. It looks like some degenerate fool managed to hack into the account of silentknight and made the guy look like a real buffoon. I hope silentknight catches the guy.

I must strenuously disagree. I know I hit the abuse button when I see something that is offensive, and the majority of the time it is removed immediately. If you really are seeing so much "obscene" material here, why aren't you hitting the abuse button? For that matter, why would you remain here?
I think our Mods do a fantastic job, but the system relies on us doing our part as well.
