O'Reilly Factor Provides Free Republic Offending Comments Links

Edited on 08/01/2007 4:30:51 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

I received an e-mail today from the Fox News producer who booked me for the O'Reilly Factor last night. The links have been forwarded to Jim Robinson for review.

Jim asked me to start a thread with the links so that Freepers, and everyone else, could see for themselves what the fuss is about.

The Hillary Clinton stray bullet assassination comment was a very bad joke comment that someone posted two days ago. It was flagged last night after the O'Reilly Factor broadcast and was removed by a moderator. It is available for the time being in Google cache:

To: Virginia Ridgerunner I like my scenario better:

After eight years of the economy faltering, interest rates are 19%, 900,000 people are dead in Iraq since we left, taxes have gone up by 60% and Chile, Bolivia and Columbia are now Communist regimes, a stray bullet at a NARAL rally catches President Clinton and kills her.

As they take away Cindy Sheehan she screams why did she have to remove the troops? We were winning.

The next day the dow goes up 2000 points and closes at 2150.

Don't even bother trying to defend that one. Assassination jokes have no place on Free Republic. Yes, Cindy Sheehan has written of her fantasizies about killing President Bush--and she's not joking, but that's her problem. We're better than that.

The "homosexuals are dogs" comment is taken out of context. The actual quote is "Homosexuals are the modern day dogs in the manger." That was in reference to an article about proprieters in the U.K. not being allowed to deny hotel accomodations to homosexual couples on account of religious belief.

The American Heritage online dictionary gives this description for the phrase: dog in the manger, NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. dogs in the manger. One who prevents others from enjoying what one has no use for oneself. ETYMOLOGY: From a fable in which a dog prevented an ox from eating hay he did not want himself.

That comment was posted two days ago and has also been removed by the moderators. It is available for now in Google cache.

The "I hate blacks" comment was nowhere to be found in the other threads referenced.

The threads are about crime in the black community, gangsta culture and Jesse Jackson. Two of the threads are in the Smoky Backroom.

Please ping me when you get around to posting links to what you allege.

You really shouldn’t post again, until you have.

Wow RonDog. From your link:

"There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge," O'Reilly charged on the IMUS in the MORNING radio show.

"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack - right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue... And the authorities should know it."

The Link. (So that the O'Rielly staff doesn't think I made it up.) That sounds like something that Mr. O'Reilly should do a show about. I mean that looks like an obvious "hate wish." My goodness!

Three years ago. I am sure if it isn't an accurate quote, Mr. Drudge would have been sued by now. Or at least an out of court settlement. (deja vous)

It was not a 'fun' interview, but hopefully some good will come out of it.

Don't exect BO to humbly apologize. It's not his nature since he considers himself the elite of the elitists.

...I am not an Attorney, but the report was dishonest, damaging and defamatory.

Free Republic is Jim Robinson's business. If I was him I would be talking to a lawyer...

Mr. O'Popinjay should learn about the dangers of slandering FR from THESE folks:
Fresno panel calls Free Republic a "hate group"

O'Reilly presented "I hate Blacks" twice as if it was a comment of an indivual poster about his own opinion, not as a reference to a title of a column. We don't know what it really was because they did not reference where, if in any post, it came from.

If the phrase was the comment of a Freeper, then it would be very easy for O'Reilly to provide the link for it.

However, Bill O'Reilly's research of Free Republic probably lasted all of 20 seconds while looking over the shoulder of an intern showing him phrases out of context.

I predict that there will be no link provided to the "I Hate Blacks" phrase because that link will lead back to the headline of an article published by SFGate.com referencing a column by that name in a newspaper that was being "assailed".

Since providing that link will make Bill O'Reilly look like a fool, we should not hold our breaths waiting for them to provide that link. They never will.

As I said, "All the News that is Fit to Fake".

I would not be surprised if O'Reilly reads this post and then spins it to report that a Freeper named "Polybius" posted "I Hate Blacks" three times in a single post.

It is accurate.

At the time, Matt played the AUDIO of that quote MULTIPLE times on his Sunday night radio program.

Here. Here. I was pretty pissed when I watched that segment last night. Thank you for posting the origin of the comments listed and also for making it clear this is no PC site. However, it is a site that we all value and want to support, so the heads up on occasion or maybe just a reminder is a good thing. I feel the moderators and Jim have done an excellent job.

Although I do watch O' Reilly, my opinion of what he did last night was "What an underhanded far reaching trick that was." If there was context, sure. If those comments were representative of the site, absolutely he should have addressed them. But it is not gladly and I think it was a sucker punch. I thought of someone's comments days before that O Reilly had mentioned that 'they' didn't like him on FR. Which is just not true as there are so many people here, there are all sorts of likes and dislikes. Too bad he messed with a site that actually has people who did like him. Until now. Now that I see how out of context his accusations were, it makes me wonder where else he does this. It seemed like a personal vendetta. That is not journalism. That is narcissism. I didn't know O Reilly was so petty. Sad.

I don’t think O’Reilly understands the CONCEPT of trolling... I think he has no idea what it is.

A set of encyclopedias couldn't hold all the concepts O'Reilly can't grok.
Especially when it involves technologies post-1970.

“Wishing someone dead is tasteless”.....

What about Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot? I wish they had died before coming to power. Jefferson often said that idiots should be encouraged to speak. That way we know who they are.

Arguing the exception to the rule is right in line with O'Reilly's feeble-minded populism.

If O'Reilly had a direct link he would have sent it and rubbed our noses in it.

To compound his problem even if he later finds other bad posts he is still screwed because he based his reporting on these.

I predict he changes the subject and then hides under his desk.

I wonder when Bill will peruse this site and expose it? He wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole.

Per usual, Kristinn, you represented FR well. For BOR's minions to scour the millions of FR posts to come up with those examples and him to portray them as typical of FR says much more about who BOR is and what he's about than it does about FR.

Spot on.

O’Reilly’s TV show is great!

At about the half hour mark on Wednesdays when Dennis Miller is on.

And Friday. His Friday shows rock! Except for all of the sound bites Michelle Malkin is forced to play of Bill O’Reilly.

Jet J, ain't that sumptin'? Gheeze...Wish I could spell hipochrite.

A good cop can find probable cause to make a traffic stop on a brand new car pulling out of the dealer's lot being driven by a DMV instructor.

My point is that you can always find imperfections when that is what your looking for. If BOR wants to evaluate FreeRepublic, he should compare threads announcing the deaths of Prominent Political figures. Compare threads such as the death of Ann Richards on FR vs the death of Jerry Falwell on the KOS or at the DU, then let him decide which sites are the hate sites.
