I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.
Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.
As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.
I have a feeling you are probably ‘right’. ;)
I just watched the video again, Ford says he doesn’t know what F.R. stands for. LOL
Its easy to find on the home page..........
Statement by the founder of Free Republic:
In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I’m trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule.
Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security. We support our military, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief and we oppose turning control of our government back over to the liberals and socialists who favor appeasement, weakness, and subserviency. We do not believe in surrendering to the terrorists as France, Germany, Russia and Spain have done and as Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton and the Democrats, et al, are proposing.
As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.
Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.
We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.
Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.
May God bless and protect our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and may God continue to bless America.

I found it odd that he did not mention the terrible Kos incident that happened the other day in frong of his own house (when the Kos Kids were handing out leaflets calling him a “pervert”) - which is libelous. He should have taken them on instead of going after a website, FR, which he obviously has never read. I am also tired of his allowing people to call Ann Coulter a “hater” without challenging them.
If the people who are trying to paint FreeRepublic as a right-wing hate-mongering website are allowed to keep up the noise, they will eventually make it stick. We need to keep our hyperbole to a minimum and keep the “schtick” below the radar screen. Remember, Conservatives ARE held to a higher standard. It’s a cross we all have to bear.
Well it is very distressing to me as I am a very active in my community and have told many people about this site, i.e. my representatives office.
I will be upset if someone watched the segment and then asks me why I frequent a so called ‘hate’ site and told them they should join in.
on Kristinn’s thread last night, tsgTakoma showed where the ‘homosexuals are dogs’ quote came from .. it was a quote within an article by someone like Idi Amin, or another third world dictator - not a quote of a FReeper.
O’Reilly’s ‘crack research staff’ needs to spend a little more time before having him go on air with false claims.
Haven’t watched him in months now. Don’t intend to start up again, either.
Me too.
Okay, Ill say it - - Bill OReilly is a liar.
Actually no, the phrased he quoted were in reference to, (used in comedy pictures to show absurdity) articles. NOT posts. Tread articles had the phrases in other words, NOT posters comments. And there were a couple of absurdity pictures posted, to point out hypocrisy. Disagreement, even in strong terms is not hate, and the redefining of the word hate to include such, is a socialist tactic. I don't hate BOR, and doubt any one else here does either. All words have meaning, vile is the most repulsive of actions or speech, and disagreement or criticism is not vile, nor is it hateful.
Regardless, how can anyone now trust any of his future reports/ on-air campaigns? And in what other ways may he have misled his audience in the past?
The novelty of his act wore off some time ago for me and I stopped making a point of tuning in, but I will now avoid his show on principle.
Nice try, but perhaps a trip to Google is in order . . . Geraldo’s birth name is Gerald Michael Rivera.
A better search mechanism for FR would help.
meanwhile, anyone who can say he hasn’t seen some pretty offensive posts on FR is in deep denial.
Sure they are in the minority, but who really takes them to task?

The Moderators do an outstanding job.
Well, I’ve often stated that liberalism is a genetic disease. I suppose that would rise to the level of hate speech and should be outlawed by the federal government. O’Reilly should watch his mouth. He insults large groups of people on a daily basis. If he keeps pushing the hate speech concept, he may find the feds coming after him someday.
Good points. Also, Free Republic is one of the most influential hubs in the nation for resources and communications devoted to troop-support activities, not just donations and volunteering at bases and hospitals, but also, most notably, weekly counterprotests against organized subversive "anti-war" agitators in cities from coast to coast.
I thought copies of the pages would be available this morning. They were not.
In the battle for the hearts and minds of America, in an effort to save America, the cause of conservatism as we know it is just and worth the fight.
Bill O’Reilly has attempted to stereotype Free Republic in order to make it okay for folks to not seek us out. After all we are hateful people and who needs that.
This should not be allowed to stand. Once the “copies” are received and proven false (outright or in context) what will happen next.
FreeRepublic is given time to dispute focusing on Bills bogus papers.
Thousands of us gather in front of Fox studios together with PW and demand retraction.
Law suit.
I don’t know, but allowing this great bastian of conservative thought and action be marginalized by the likes of Mr. O’Reilly or anybody have me a little burned.
In my opinion the louder we get, the more folks come to visit and see for themselve, the more strength we have in the fight.
Let me know what I can do to help.
Eddie01
get as many in his audience to feel shameful should they attempt to look in on us.
The one I got the communication from is.
I didn’t believe it but he caught Kristin off guard. It was out of the blue. And anyway, we have the report-abuse button which I have had to use a few time when hateful cruel comments were made about my faith (LDS).
Hold O’R’s feet to the fire.
I know that... perhaps I should have added a <sarc> tag to my post.
