BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Boise State running back who scored the winning points in the Fiesta Bowl, then proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend on national television, says he has hired security for their wedding because of racial threats.
Ian Johnson, who is black, and Chrissy Popadics, who is white, are due to be married Saturday in Boise. Since his Jan. 1 proposal, Johnson said, he has received phone calls, letters and some personal threats from people who object to their marriage plans.
"You take it for what it is - the less educated, the less willing to change," Johnson, 21, of San Dimas, Calif., told the Idaho Statesman for its Tuesday editions. "But we're not acting like we're naive to all the stuff that's going on. We know what's been said. We're going to make sure we're safe at all times. It's an amazing day for us, and we'd hate to have it ruined by someone."
"It's really sad because a lot of people that are probably doing it are the same people who were cheering me on," Johnson said.

Gee, I thought this was 2007, not 1954. Best of luck to the newlyweds.

This is odd— he’s more white than he is black! And a damn fine running back too.

When I first heard this story, I just figured it was a jealous ex of Ian’s trying to stop the wedding.

I had no idea he was black. I mean, in this day and age, who cares anymore?

I know for a fact that black women cannot STAND black men who marry or date white women. It’s the ultimate letdown.
To: GOP_Raider
Hopefully it is a crackpot who will disappear. There are so many worthy causes to protest - a happy couple getting married is not one of them.
To: GOP_Raider
Do you think white girls/women are pressured by the political correct society to accept dates and marriage proposals by men of different races for fear of being called and labeled racist and bigots?
I think they are in some instances but I'm not implying this woman doesn't love this man and is eager to marry him.

The only people who really care and judge what race someone is anymore are leftists who like to put everyone in their little box and make them victims so they can ‘ride in and save the day’....

I mean....
This can't be racist attitudes in the perfect land of liberal Oz...?!?

The game was so exciting, with the lead going back and forth all night. Then he proposed on national TV - it was pretty emotional to watch.

Plenty of educated people are racists.

I had no idea he was black. I mean, in this day and age, who cares anymore There's a lot of people out there who still do. Troglodytes who can make lives miserable.
That's why any inter-racial couple needs to go into the relationship with their eyes wide open to the fact that there are still too many racists out there.
