Two of the heaviest traveled highways in Dallas. Both are completely shut down. That ought to be interesting...

Court Building has not decided to evacuate. ASPCA building has been evacuated...I hope they took the animals with them.
During the explosions, shrapnel was flying all over! :)

Acetylene becomes “settling”. We may have another word change in the making.

I-30/I-35 Interchange shut down.I certainly hope that no one is hurt. That said, I hate to sound selfish or self-absorbed, but that interchange really needs to be opened again by 10 p.m. tonight.

Truck bomb??? Most likely not, but you never know. All witnesses so far have said they heard nothing but suddenly saw a large fireball from the back of the building.

Thankfully it wasn’t a very populated area, it was on the southern fringe of downtown, so hopefully casualties will be at a minimum.
Also, thank God for the rain, because had this happened a year or two ago in the middle of the drought, we would have had a lot more fires in the surrounding areas.

Yea they even spelled it “Settling” on the crawl.
For awhile now the crawl has it now as “Acetelyne”. Bad spelling but it at least is much closer.

Acetylene is stored in tanks dissolved in acetone in a ceramic sponge. It does not tolerate high pressures well and will become unstable and explode. Pressures over 15 psi for the gas in use are NOT reccommended.
Damaged tanks can form high pressure bubbles in the tank, with disastrous results.
That may what started all this.
You can tell these folks on the live feed never worked near a welding shop...

The tower cam film they just showed, showed the bed of the truck on fire and then the tanks on the truck started exploding. Not sure how the truck itself caught on fire.

Channel 8 just showed some early shots of where the fire started with a truck loaded with canisters of whatever gas was flaming and exploding.
From the close by building, one could see someone spraying water onto the truck, trying without success to stop the fire or slow it down.
Repeatedly as the canisters on the truck continue to explode, the person straying water continues. More than once, explosions look to explode with flames going into the building area where the spraying was coming from... However, they kept on spraying...
Reminds me of that brave guy in China singlehandedly standing down that line of army tanks at Tiananmen Square in 1989.
I've captured a few shots, and will post them in a minute...
