The United Nations says it is rushing an audit team to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to probe recent allegations of gold trafficking by some of its peacekeepers there.

Indian UN "blue helmets" have been accused of trafficking in gold with rebels of the chiefly Hutu Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) in eastern DRC, according to UN documents and witnesses.

And Pakistani UN troops based in the north-eastern Ituri area in 2005 have been embroiled in similar allegations of trading in gold and guns with Congolese militia they were meant to be disarming.

UN under-secretary general for peacekeeping operations (DPKO) Jean-Marie Guehenno says the world body decided to send a management audit team to DRC this weekend, "in light of a series of recent allegations of misconduct by elements serving with MONUC (the UN mission in the DRC)".

I read an article earlier that the un was also investigating blue helmets accused of dealing guns in the Congo.

Does everyone know about the UNITED NATIONS OFFICE FOR OUTER SPACE AFFAIRS. They want control of the land, they want the Law of Sea Treaty to control the Earth's water, and also space.

I blame them (along with the islamderthals) for stirring up Somalia in the first place. The UN has a long history of brutality.

The important part of this story is that the incidents referred to occurred in 1957. You see the United Nations has been kind of busy what with keeping the peace and doing good stuff all over the world. But this shows that they are catching up in their backlog.
Rwanda and the new problems in Congo are scheduled for action, i.e., rising on the docket to inquiry stage, on approximately March 5th 2097.

As do I.

If we don't do something about the un before too long it will be too late.

All that global warming crap is a grab for a world tax, paid directly to the un.

Here's an article that was in a Liechtenstein News article. It doesn't say what year this happened in so I'm assuming it's recent. The translation tool sucks but it can be discerned.

If it werent for the unknown thousands mutilated or slaughtered in Sierra Leone it would make a great comedy movie.

Rebels overthrow the government and enslave the population, forcing them to mine diamonds.

Executive Outcomes send a few hundred men into the country. Within a couple of weeks they rout a 10,000 man rebel army, regain control of the country, and reinstall the legitimate army.

The UN reopens diplomatic relations in the country and demands that EO leave the country. The government complys and within a couple of weeks the rebels are back and some 500 UN personnel are held hostage.

Today, France has "control" of the situation.

How right you are. The un is like the islamofascists, where they are, death and destruction follows.

Have you ever read The Millennium Report?

Do these words remind you of anything?

Sounds like the same shit that was on a slow cook thirty or forty years ago when mad Mike Hoare and his Mercs were dashing around Congo.
Wilbur A. Smith wrote a corker of a book “Dark of the Sun” that was made into a film in 1968 “Last Train from Katanga”.

The United Nations has earned it’s reputation as an incompetent collection of wankers, assholes and outright crooks over a long period of time. They rightly deserve all of the contempt and scorn they get.
I challenge any and all to provide any positive thing they may have done purposefully. Caring for their own families in royal fashion does not count.
Communists and Cannibals, held together by creative crooks.

I'm at a loss to meet that challenge.

That shamnesty bill had to fail. There was more to it than meets the eye.

A few years back I read about rioting outside some kind of UN sponsored World Hunger summit.

Those idiots went to one of the poorer African nations to hold their summit. As the diplomats held their summit and dined on lobster, fillet Mignon, and champagne, starving people rioted across the city.

The United Nations is such an eff’ed up unmitigated disaster, if they had greater white representation among it’s membership Mel Brooks could write a smash hit musical comedy about it and get a barrow full of Tony’s and Oscars and money.

Mentally I always associate, via flash pix in my mind, the United Nations and emaciated corpses, the way I associate flash mind pix of starving huddled figures behind wire in tattered striped rags, or huge mounds of naked cadavers with the Germans and the Holocaust.

I can come up with dozens of UN screw ups off the top of my head.

In Haiti just a couple of years ago a Canadian UN peacekeeper was shot. He bled to death in the gutter as Pakistani peacekeepers stood there and took pictures. They claimed they were following orders by refusing to leave that spot.

Then of course there was the Canadian killed in Lebanon by an Israeli bomb as he screamed for the UN to get him out of there because terrorists were firing from on top of his position. Naturally the UN blamed Israel even though the UN violated the geneva convention by leaving him to act as a human shield.

If, **IF** the UN wanted to do something that has a modicum of merit attached to it, they would invite Michael Moore to present his film about the relative health care delivery systems, “Sicko”, before the plenum or the Security Council,.....and then barbecue the fat bastard on a spit, and serve him with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. Hey. I may be on to something here. Lotsa fat, useless do nothing excremental polititurds floating in the cesspools of the worlds political environs. Howzabout a once a week lottery wherein one of those worthies gets his number called and gets to help his fellow man at a dinner hosted in his honor, where he is the guest and main course. Comments? I know, a BIG pot of Sadr Chili.

A question on the un monitor link: How many Americans have served as Secretary-General of the United Nations?

Answer

No American has ever served as Secretary-General of the United Nations. Secretary-Generals have hailed from Norway, Sweden, Burma, Austria, Peru, Egypt and Ghana.

The UN Charter describes the Secretary-General as "chief administrative officer" of the world body, and that he shall perform "such other functions as are entrusted" to him by the Security Council, General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and other United Nations organs. He also has the power to "bring to the attention of the Security Council any matter which in his opinion may threaten the maintenance of international peace and security." Alger Hiss, then an official with the U.S. State Department and later convicted of espionage, presided over the San Francisco conference, where the final terms of U.N. Charter were negotiated.
