based on what he has said and done in the past, my belief is that Thompson's solution is legalization of illegal aliens.

Based on what he said, it is apparent that you didn't listen. He said nothing about legalizing illegal aliens.

"You're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it's unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law."

Thompson said this. This is exactly what legalizing illegal aliens is.

On a “Path to Citizenship” for ILLEGAL Aliens

FRED THOMPSON: I think that you have to realize that you're either going to drive 12 million people underground permanently, which is not a good solution. You're going to get them all together and get them out of the country, which is not going to happen. Or you're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship”

Fred Thompson clearly says deporting illegals is "not going to happen" and we should consider finding a way for them to become citizens. Giving ILLEGAL aliens some form of citizenship IS amnesty.

Yes, all know Fred is officially "against" amnesty. So is President Bush, John McCain, and Mel Martinez -- they all say they're 100% amnesty and have never vote for amnesty, and their support to legalize criminals doesn't "count" as amnesty. No sane politician will ever admit to being "for" amnesty, because you might as well tape a sign to your back that says defeat me. Fred Thompson's insistence he he opposes amnesty is no different than what Mel Martinez said when he ran for the Senate in 2004. It's easy to "oppose" amnesty bills in the Senate when you're not actually there to vote on them.

Unless Fred promises to veto ALL legislation legalizing criminal aliens, you can mark him down as pro-amnesty.
