First off, I put the "gag alert" for anyone unfamiliar with Mort Kondracke's work.
On a personal note, I was in evident pain reading this and have remorse for having done so.

” a Republican senator confessed to a Hispanic group from Maryland that his vote to kill immigration reform was “a profile in political cowardice.”
Who is this Republican Senator?

The collapse of immigration reform on Thursday casts deep doubt on whether America's current political leaders can solve any large problem, especially when demagogues can stir up passion against it.Knockdrackee is a no- talent political porch monkey. We weren't "stirred up" by demagogues, we were stirred up by political hacks and intellectual snobs like Mort who feel compelled to impose their enlightened views on us, the unwashed masses. STFU Morty.

“Bush also should have made border enforcement a key priority of his administration far earlier in order to defuse criticism that promises to restrict illegal immigration were empty.”
That says it all. “Trust but verify.” Bush failed that test, as nobody believed his lies about the border security components of this bill.

I wondered the same thing.

a Republican senator confessed to a Hispanic group from Maryland that his vote to kill immigration reform was a profile in political cowardice.
He could have simply said he was obeying the will of the people who hired him.

Mort's seemed more cheerful lately, but he's hopelessly bigoted against Hindus and Chinese people. He'd rather give the immigration slots to uneducated Mexican peasants than to hardworking professionals ready to make a difference in the world.
I'm sure he doesn't see himself as bigoted, but he is. He's so bad I've had to dump him over in the category of people like Robert Kennedy Jr. who want to shoot down those who do not agree with them.

Mor-ton (as McLaughlin called him) is still an idiot. His only purpose in life is to make Fred Barnes look smart, and that ain’t easy.

>It was exactly that - and not only for him, but for many senators who were terrorized by the political firestorm set loose by mainly right-wing radio and television talk-show loudmouths.
Gag alert? I LOVE IT when government fear the people. This is music to my ears. Let them terrorize in fear of the people forever.

Wasn’t Mort’s deceased wife part hispanic?

What can only be called the "cowardice caucus" - those who voted "yes" in 2006 and "no" this year - includes Republican Sens. Sam Brownback (Kansas), who actually voted "yes" on Thursday, then changed his vote, Norm Coleman (Minnesota), Susan Collins (Maine), Pete Domenici (New Mexico), Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Gordon Smith (Oregon), George Voinovich (Ohio) and John Warner (Virginia.). It also includes Democratic Sens. Max Baucus (Montana), Evan Bayh (Indiana), Jeff Bingaman (New Mexico), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Tom Harkin (Iowa), Mary Landrieu (Louisiana) and Mark Pryor (Arkansas). Many of these are the same Senators who are weak on Iraq. Yup, they're cowards regardless of how they voted on the immigration issue.

Bush won 44 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004, but Republican Congressional candidates received only 29 percent in 2006, according to exit polls. A recent Gallup Poll showed that only 11 percent of Hispanics now identify as Republicans.I guess a bunch of hombres have changed their votos eh Senor Kornkracker? Does that make them cowards???

Representing your constituents instead of corporate lobbyists and career politicians is now called cowardice. Well we will see more cowards in office then once those brave souls are voted out.
I would also like to know who the Senator who cried to the Hispanic group in Maryland was. He truly is a coward.

Meanwhile, the big winners in this fight are demagogues with microphones and their political allies. Just what exactly are demagogues with microphones? Does this refer exclusively to talk radio? Is so, are bloggers website demagogues? Wouldn't it be great to hear Ol' Mort try to explain this drivel?
