Viewers weren't ready - Katie (Viewers Fault!)

"I think one thing that I realized, looking back at it and analyzing it, is people are very unforgiving and very resistant to change," Couric told this week's New York magazine.
The public reassessment marks a huge change for America's Sweetheart, who burst on to the stodgy network news scene last year as its first solo female anchor. But as her "CBS Evening News" ratings have plunged and her bosses mull changes to the show, Couric cast herself as a survivor - so far.
"I've gone through a bit of a feeding frenzy and there's blood in the water and I've got some vulnerabilities," she said.

Trying to replace a fraud like Dan Rather is always difficult Katie. The propagandized eldery, who did not know any better, are dying off. The “don’t want to be bothered with weighty issues” morning crowd did not carry over to an evening audience. Courage Katie.

That's pretty good. Very insightful.

Generally speaking, people who show too much of their teeth, no matter how sparkling, are doing a “skinnin’ and grinnin’” act.

I’ll never forget Hillary’s life partner claiming that the reason why he was so unpopular was that folks resented “agents of change.” I never knew that a statesman was supposed to be some sort of punk rocker in a suit and four hundred dollar haircut, but now I see the landscape with new eyes. The same with the Perky One. She is a secular humanist at best, and I resent it.

"I've gone through a bit of a feeding frenzy..." I'm scratching my head. This makes no sense whatsoever in the context that it was presented.
The network execs chose perky over substance. In the end, the market saw right through it. Viewers voted "empty skirt" and tuned out. Of course, Katie's cluelessness is why she fails to understand what truly went wrong.

Yes you will need to keep your cable. Are you buying the HD version or the regular? May as well spring for the HD TIVO if you get any HD programming in your area (via cable company)

I see. I think the basic model TIVO is pretty cheap now, and the monthly membership is something like $12? Anyway have fun! You’ll learn to love the TIVO!

I thought Jane Pauley was on the news at night......
Was the public forgiving then?

Pauley never anchored the evening news. She appeared on Dateline as a correspondent fom time to time.
Pauley always had a certain "gravitas" that Katie never had. She's probably still liberally biased, but it didn't come off quite as blatantly with Pauley as it did with others.

Wonder if the time of day has anything to do with it.
Today Show = Women control the remote.
CBS Evening News = Men control the remote.
There IS a reason why Oprah comes on before the news and not after.
