Gore: Son's arrest is 'a private family matter'

Updated: July 5, 2007 08:08 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- Al Gore says he's dealing with his son's arrest in California "as a private family matter."

Al Gore the Third, who is 24, was arrested early yesterday. Sheriff's deputies say he was driving about 100 miles per hour on the San Diego Freeway. They arrested him on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

The former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee appeared on the "Today" show on NBC this morning. He says he's glad his son is safe and is "getting treatment." He also says he's thankful no one was hurt.

Al Gore the Third completed substance abuse counseling to settle pot possession charges in suburban Washington in 2003.

“Once again we get to witness first hand one of the primary mechanisms by which the Drug War operates.”

Hypocrisy, like when politicians vote for harsh punishments for things they did themselves when younger and got away with?

Oh yep, that evil drug war, getting hopped up stone heads who are driving over 100 mph on the streets off the streets. Yup, that damn evil drug war......

Speeding is illegal. So is driving while impaired. Has nothing to do with the substance used to impair the driver. Driving while impaired is illegal. You support a return to alcohol prohibition, right? You do want to be consistent, right? I mean, you don't want to be a hypocrite, right?

It’s always a “private family matter” with democrats. But when a republican screws up, they tout the public’s “right to know.”

Unfortunately for Gore his last name is famous and his son is a grown adult. If his son was a minor I would concur with the fat slob, but not now. His son recklessly endangered who knows how many people while transporting his favorite drug. Sorry Al I feel no sorrow for your habitual offender son.

Soooo... algore gets his fat face on the morning news shows to say that it’s a “private family matter”. I have only two questions...

1. If it’s so damned private why is he talking about it on national TV at the first opportunity?
2. Why is he spending time in front of the cameras instead of being by his son?

The kid was probably “acting out” because he was losing drag races due to having to drive a Prius.

Yes, poor "Trey". All the other Young Adults of Privilege get BWMs, Porches, Corvettes and the like. Tch... it just breaks your heart, don't it? ;-)

Gee

He had (and still has) such good examples set for him at home:

- Al and Tipper known as heavy drug users their whole lives

- Daddy “No controlling legal authority” Al spending his whole life ignoring laws and rules while preaching how others should obey them

- Daddy Al, who was also the son of a senator, received special treatment his whole life and never had to answer for his acts or transgressions - why expect his son to be any different?

yes, yeS, yES, YES LEAVE THE POOR ADULT MAN ALONE.

Had this been Jena or Barbara Bush the MSM would be screaming we have rights to know everything.

This guy was driving at a high rate of speed 103 mph, high on on drugs with a car loaded down with psych drugs and this is supposed to be a private affair, bologna.

This would be news even if it wasn’t Algores kid.

Just the fact that he was driving a rice burning cracker jack death trap hybrid car that fast is news.

But if Jenna or Barbara Bush have a few drinks at a bar, it’s a scandal.

How many stories did we have to read about the Bush party girls?

Well both President Bushes have had problems with their kids doing illegal stuff, and I bet Chelsea did some bad things as well. It's almost a given that if you're famous a relative will probably embarrass you.

The thing I took away from Gore's kid is that somebody got a Prius to go faster than 70 mph, because I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.
