Gore: Son's arrest is 'a private family matter'

Updated: July 5, 2007 08:08 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- Al Gore says he's dealing with his son's arrest in California "as a private family matter."

Al Gore the Third, who is 24, was arrested early yesterday. Sheriff's deputies say he was driving about 100 miles per hour on the San Diego Freeway. They arrested him on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

The former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee appeared on the "Today" show on NBC this morning. He says he's glad his son is safe and is "getting treatment." He also says he's thankful no one was hurt.

Al Gore the Third completed substance abuse counseling to settle pot possession charges in suburban Washington in 2003.

Driving 100 MPH on a public road under the influence of drugs is not a “PRIVATE FAMILY MATTER”.

But as we all know, its different if you are a Communist.

Al, how's that working out for you?

Jeb Bush's daughter was fodder for months, not to mention how the twins were chased from bar to bar.

Isn’t this the clown who got hit by a car outside Camden Yard? Dad was paying attention that night.

How awful! Operating a vehicle at 100 mph cannot be efficient. /s

Heh. I didn't think a Prius could hit triple-digit speeds. The High Priest of Global Warming is damned lucky that Al III didn't turn someone else into a crash-test dummy.

What we need is suggestions for an appropriate, yet environmentally-friendly form of punishment. "Caning" sounds sorta "green". ;-)

Aw heck, I dislike Gore Sr, but after a certain point the kid is responsible for himself. Gore Sr is responsible for how he reacts to this. The kid was probably “acting out” because he was losing drag races due to having to drive a Prius.

His son is 24 years old! At that age my husband and I were married with a child on the way, holding down responsible jobs, not running around like a teenager at 2 am. Then add on the pot and drugs and you’ve got someone acting like a minor with adult privileges. Someone needs a big case of “grow the h*&l the RIGHT NOW!” busted on him

I’m just amazed that he was able to get to 100 MPH in a stinking Prius.

I’d give this kid a break.

If I was forced to listen to Al Gore for my entire life...there is absolutely no doubt that I’d be on drugs.

Private matter? Like Mary Cheney? Like Jeb Bush’s daughter?

What a crew of nauseating hypocrites these people are.

No, Al, it’s not a “private family matter”! You choose to be in the political arena, and your son’s behavior reflects on your parenting, and thus your character. If you don't like the heat, stay out of the kitchen!
