Gore: Son's arrest is 'a private family matter'

Updated: July 5, 2007 08:08 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- Al Gore says he's dealing with his son's arrest in California "as a private family matter."

Al Gore the Third, who is 24, was arrested early yesterday. Sheriff's deputies say he was driving about 100 miles per hour on the San Diego Freeway. They arrested him on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

The former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee appeared on the "Today" show on NBC this morning. He says he's glad his son is safe and is "getting treatment." He also says he's thankful no one was hurt.

Al Gore the Third completed substance abuse counseling to settle pot possession charges in suburban Washington in 2003.

He’d have been a lot better off if his mom let him listen to the same music as the other kids instead of the Grateful Dead albums his parents listened to while they were doing drugs.

He says that like his son is a minor and entitled to have his name withheld. Perhaps Al should ask Paris how that privacy thing works again.

Or the Bush twins. Of course the children of Clinton and Gore are a "protected" class according to the DBM.

Once again we get to witness first hand one of the primary mechanisms by which the Drug War operates.

But if Jenna or Barbara Bush have a few drinks at a bar, it’s a scandal.

“If I’m entrusted with the Presidency, I’ll send a strong message to every American child: drugs are wrong, and drugs can kill you... I’ll lead a national crusade to dry up drug demand, hold up drugs at the border, and break up the drug rings that are spreading poison on our streets.... “I’ll double the number of High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas – drug hot-spots where we aggressively target our enforcement efforts.... “And I’ll work to make sure that all of our school zones are drug-free zones – by stiffening the penalties to those who would use children to peddle drugs, and those who would sell drugs anywhere near our schools....” Al Gore

I just hope that he isn’t exposed to any obscene rap music lyrics while sitting in prison.

Al Gore Jr. and his wife “burned” records and careers for political advancement in the 1980s (he attained the national stage and made a run for the White House in 1988 where he later introduced Willie Horton to the political debate while facing Michael Dukakis in the primaries).

Gore should waste less time trying to save the planet and spend more time trying to be a good father.

His son needs him more that America needs him.

Algore, get your priorities straight!!

Ain’t that the truth!

Any moral/ethical problems on the side of a dem is a “family affair. Bill philandering? Family affair! Gore’s son a dope fiend? Family affair! Teresa Heinz Kerry’s tax returns? Family affair!

What a joke. Now we’ll have to hear the democratic pundits telling us to butt out. AS IF they don’t attack the Bush twins like rabid dogs. Or bring Cheney’s daughter’s sexuality into the limelight for political gain.

Why can’t people see the dems for the hypocrites they are? (I don’t mean US! I mean “Joe.”)

Odd how a restaurant manager would go ahead and serve people (s)he knew to be underage, call 911 AND the media to the restaurant, and not get charged with serving a minor (even if you don’t know, it still puts your liquor license in jeopardy).

Gore: Son’s arrest is ‘a private family matter’

He's 24 for cryin' out loud! Algore won't have any more luck with his "kid" than I have trying to tell my adult daughter that her boyfriend is a drunken pig and she should dump him for a real human being............

Private family matter?

Since when is criminal behavior private?

100 mph in a Prius is exactly the hypocrisy that Conservatives are exposing in the ‘save the planet’ greenies.

He and his serial-offending son deserve the scorn and derision of the people, and the consequences of the criminal justice system.

If Paris goes to jail for violating license probation, Goreon Jr. the drunken, drugged out speedfreak should be jailed for a very long time.
